Why no BBK with the M3?

I don\'t understand why BMW does not use a nicer BBK setup as the AMG cars come with? Brakes are deff nice on the M3 but It looks so
Plain for a car of its stance.

Function over form ... but they don't exactly function that well. They are more than adequate on the street, but it is one of the first things most people change for the track.

It would be nice to have a brake package that you do not have to touch when you go to the track. It would help seal the deal that this IS the ultimate driving machine and BMW's ad campaigns with the M3 on the track would be more credible.

I would think BMW is more concerned with functionality of their brakes rather than asthetics..The M3 brakes with the x-drilled, floating rotor setup is really nice for stock brakes...and calipers are gloss black..

I know what you are saying in comparision with other performance cars in its class the brakes do look a bit pedestrian.

Even my buddys g37 has two piston front and rears powder coated silver with the Infiniti logo on them..stock..

Age old question, but rational as to why I can only assume cost is one of the factors. I'm about to throw on the BMW Performance brake pads at my yearly oil change at the dealership so as to maintain full warranty but they are quite pricey (for the equivalent Pagid RS19s its prob a good 25% extra for the BMW ones)

You'd be happy with the huge f10/M5 brakes. I saw these in the flesh and wow!

Yeah I mean it looks like a cheap ass brake kit. For the money it cost for the car with the competition package - throw the new F10 m5 BBK kit. Charge a little more people will buy it. The AMG kit looks and works pretty damn good. My Suzuki gsxr CDs with brembos for fucks sakes lol.

The M3 isn't designed as a dedicated track car. The GTS fills that duty better.

Because we as customers settle for what they have. We just deal an justify the puny brakes. They work fine, but wouldn't you prefer something better and worth looking at? We should all complain and raise hell, and hope the next M3 comes with a damn BBK. Those gorgeous AMG brakes really chap my @ss.

Agreed. My point exactly they look and perform better than the M3. Test have shown this. Would love a nice M logo on a huge caliper!

the puny brakes don't bother me as much as NOT having a factory option to take them up a notch. (I don't mean pads either)

If I could pay an upgrade charge of 2K at the time of purchase for some 4 piston monoblocs, I sure would have!!

The next gen of M cars will all have nicer looking brakes painted blue with the ///M logo, of course.

They wait all these years to put on a bbk and try to pass it off as a new feature.

DocJohn an optional kit would be a great idea. Don't understand where all these marketing and sales geniuses for BMW fail to see a gap.

VVG... ala F10 M5? Like this?

Upgraded pads are all that are necessary for typical (non race) track use. Probably saves a lot of money compared to Brembo, but clearly BMW has decided to not skimp here anymore given their use of Brembo's on the new M5

Brembo or not doesn't really mean shit, as Brembo has a lot of different OEM lines, some much better than others. I don't care at all about looks, and in fact the cross-drilled is a big minus in my view, as they crack worse (with heavy use) than slotted.

Functionally, the stock brakes seem to be a pretty big fail for track use, particularly with the lack of stock cooling, and I'm with others that I'd have definitely paid more for the comp package or for an option package that came with functionally better brakes. As a looks package, Competition Pack works, and I don't regret getting it, but it's laughable as a "competition" package. That would be fine if BMW didn't try to sell the M3 as a track car, but they do, and it's probably the only component that is just completely not up to track duty for perhaps anyone but beginners.

Frankly, the only explanation I have is that BMW thought it was an area they could cut corners on, or maybe tracks BMW tested on have longer straights allowing better cooling vs the typically shorter US tracks.

They have tried to explain and rationalize the design they use compared to everyone else.

Seems most everyone has copied Porsche, which was a great move for the industry!

Yep. Them be the ones !!!!!! I guess that answers the next question.....will they fit on the M3? So where did these come from? Are they already selling parts for the M5 before the car hits the streets or is it actually out in Europe now?

It's a shame my M3 doesn't have a 6 piston BBK that I can show off to my friends.

I guess I'll just have to suffer through another season with stock calipers and PF01s.

That looks to me like a trophy BBK painted blue and with an ///M sticker.

Get over it. It's an M3. You think all of the STI, EVO, and G37 crowd are going to care about what what calipers you have?

That is not the point. For the amount of money these cars cost - they should be comparable in MOST spec's as to other cars in its range. They are selling a car that states " Ultimate Driving Machine " yet they put shitty breaking system in here.

Your complaint is valid, but keep in mind that, as noted above, Brembo has several different lines of varying "quality" for different OEM applications. I believe I've read reviews of various performance cars with OEM Brembo brakes that fail miserably in a track setting, even though they may look pretty.
