Performance Driving - Teen School

It makes my heart glad that my 4 Teenagers are into their Cars! I feel I have partially succeeded as a Parent (LOL).

On February 11th and 12th I really get to influence them when I take 3 of them to PDC for the 2 day Teen School. My Wife took our oldest last year. This year I get to go. Has anyone done this - what can I expect? I assume they don't want me hanging around so is the Factory open during the weekend?

For background: I have attended PDC Car Control and M School. Very cool.

Thank you,

Chris

Yeah factory and museum are only open during the week. I have been on the tour twice, loved it. I would love to hear what your kids have to say about this course as I am considering it for my oldest as he approaches driving age.

Sure thing, I'll post a review afterward minus the Teenage Attitude.

My oldest daughter loved the 2-day Teen School, and said she learned a lot! I enjoyed taking the car control school at the same time. Definitely worth the money!

I did it when I was 16, my dad went down with me and did PDC on his 06 M5. It was an awesome experience.

I learned so much about defensive driving and experiencing high speed lane changes and abs braking. In my honest opinion that is what every teen should go through before they get their license.

I know that my dad hung around the PDC while I drove (I'm pretty sure it was only a day long) and my little sister just went a few weeks ago.

Can't really comment on what there is to do, you might be able to see some of the driving from the building but I don't believe you are allowed to spectate necessarily. I just thought it was a fantastic experience for myself as your other kids I'm sure have said.

Enjoy the trip

Checkout the bimmerfest forum, they have some pretty good info on the PDC and surrounding area in their PDC sub-forum.

Chat up the driving school folks about borrowing a car and a map of the local twisties.
They have a nice route out to the Biltmore estate and back that we did on my M5 DE.

Update:

My Teens completed BMW Teen School two+ weeks ago.

After the program had concluded and on the way to the Airport, I asked my Teens to tell me the 5 things they learned.

Immediately without hesitation they rattled off the following:

1. Keep your eyes up and look further down the road.

2. Focus your eyes on where you want to go and not what you want to avoid (that tree).

3. Understand what ABS feels like in a Panic Stop. Not afraid of it.

4. Practiced and understand emergency maneuvers at highway speed. Learned how to maintain control of the car.

5. From the skid-pad learned how to respond (counter-steer and throttle input) to when the rear end loses grip and swings out. Practiced how to maintain control of the car in a spin.

I was pleased with their responses and enthusiasm. They clearly listened and learned.

They then advised me they were ranked the best in their class of 8 by the Instructors who kept score during the whole 2 days of practice sessions.

They both want to return and take the next level, Adult Car Control Course (I did this and agree it hones your skills even more). Their lead instructor came over to see me at the end of the program and said they did very well.

They now want to attend M School!

What have I created????

You have succeeded as a dad by getting your kids into cars, haha.

Sounds like the trip was well worth it, I'm trying to convince my little brother to go to the teen school

Thanks! You had asked if I noticed a change in my Teenagers Driving; honestly only slightly. Mentally they know what to do now and they certainly weren't going to listen to me tell them what to do.

Thanks, I'm learning it is a curse to get them into Cars but at the very least we now all read the Roundel! Good luck getting your little Brother to go!

I would Strongly recommend it especially if you have Driving Aged Teenagers. I believe the skills they teach will someday help save my Teens!
