Reasoning for not being able to access S6 with DSC on?
I do not really see the logic in not allowing access to S6 unless you have the DSC completely off. Its not a big deal but it is fun to feel the violence of S6 which reminds me of the SMG once and awhile but I rarely do it due to not wanting to drive with dsc off.
You would think this causes some people to turn dsc off just to have access to S6 when otherwise they would have kept it on if they could have turned it on with DSC. Anyway just curious! |

S6 regularly causes a bit of wheel spin through third gear. I can't imagine it playing nice with a system that tries to prevent wheel spin altogether.
Do what I do: keep S6 on all times.

Even with MDM on the traction control is still there to save your ass but less intrusive. I'm guessing with the harshness of the shifts that it would require more programming for when it is selected and it would only be needed for DCT equipped cars, so they just keep it simple and you have to turn it completely off.

S6 with DSC on would just cause DSC intervention at the time of shift.
It's like a point of diminished returns.

I wonder if the ECU records how many times you're in S6 and activate launch control. So BMW can void your DCT warranty due to excessive abuse...like the GTR?

The DCT control unit will keep a count of the number of launch control activiations, but it's pretty well known that these transmissions are extremely durable.
