Radar/Laser Detectors etc

Im in the market for a radar/laser detector. I know Valentine 1 used to be the most highly recommended. But that was 2-3 years ago. Im not sure if they are still reputable, haven't been keeping myself up-to date with that field. What do you guys suggest? Please give suggestion, and details for recommendation.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Never had a V1.

I swear by the passport 9500ix (if you are looking for windshield mounted). The GPS feature alerts red light cameras, allows you to mark locations while driving so you can mark speed traps or typical hideouts for LEOs - useful for regular trips on turnpikes/major highways. There are more updated detectors in the Passport lineup with the same features. I think you will get 2 camps with this question - 1) V1 guys and 2) passport guys.

Next research project: laser jammers

I just did a 2800 mile roadtrip. V1 saved me 5 times. It picks up the radar signal from nearly a mile away, laser too.

I have two V1's so that should be worth something.

I have an escort redline. It has incredible range but no arrows. I didn't consider the arrows necessary because I'm going to slow down regardless of where its coming.

I heard there's a radar detector that allows to to tag a Leo that you spotted, and others with the same radar that comes within that area would be alerted as well? Does anyone know who makes it?

I've been driving with a passport max for a few months now, definite improvement over the 9500. I've tried the RedLine but it was too chatty for city driving.

I bought it primarily to cut down on false alerts, it does an excellent job at that. Straight-line detection is phenomenal, off-axis is good. Laser hits are spotty but it's irrelevant anyway, laser needs a different solution.

Wished it had the directional arrows from the V1 but you can still estimate direction based on how the signal strength rises (fast: front detection, slow:rear).

Haven't tested Live yet, Waze is a good companion so far.

Beltronics Sti-R here and have had no issues. It has saved me more times than I can count in the last three years. The unit also has GPS so you can mark hotspots and has a redlight camera/steedtrap database you can plug into. Unit also learns bogus signals from gps locations so the thing rarely goes off unless there is an officer.

Susceptible to lasers but there are plugs for you to add jammers. Mounted the detector behind the front kidney, ran wiring through the passenger side firewall and have the interface where the ashtray sat. If I had to do it again today that would still be my first choice.

I've got this and the Laser Interceptor front/rear jammers and it is the perfect setup for me. I ran this against one of my 9500ix's and it was basically the same level of detection. Had an initial issue because the radar head was initial mounted behind the grill, but after moving it the reception was nearly identical.

I don't understand the appeal of the arrows on the V1. If I see/hear radar is in the area I slow down. If I knew it was left/right/rear of me I would treat it the same as if it were directly in front of me. BUT, having never used it I respect the opinion of those who like it. Different strokes and all...

I've been a V1 user for hundreds of years it seems. Gave mine to the missus when I put in a STIR+. Last weekend borrowed the V1 for a loaner car - it drove me insane. Incessant beeping and noise. Arrows pointing front, back, sides, front. Sorry Mike Valentine - your time is done. Take the arrow technology and update it with GPS. Give us proper remote systems. Other than not having arrows, love the STIR+

Love my 9500ix with blendmount. It's rather basic, cheap and does the job.
