New DCT clutch 09 E92 M3

My clutch was slipping a little under high load ~7k rpm only when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. 2nd to 3rd gear changes very quickly (S5 or S6). The car only has 16.5k mi on it and I was wondering if anyone else has seen this.

BMW is almost done putting the new clutch in and is just left with trying to source some transmission fluid.

Sorry to hear that. Good that it was under warranty.

Sorry to hear that - I have not experienced that but would be curious to know if you get any explanation as to how/why that happened - I've been on this forum for several years and have not heard of this from any dct owners - including those with over 40k miles like me.

Have not heard of this issue before. What, exactly, were the symptoms? Were there any abnormal sounds coming from the transmission, or just a slower-than-normal gear change?

Any idea how much the parts/service would have cost you had the car not been under warranty?

I wonder if the original owner (assuming that's not you - I see you had a 335i previously) abused it?

Hopefully the problem is fixed and you have it back on the road soon.

Had my DCT replaced early on due to error codes and parts and labor would have come to over 12K.

That's not that bad at all. Numbers thrown around here easily approach 25k. At that rate would expect a full DCT replace to be well under 10k in 5 years. As always, cautiously optimistic.

25K to replace a DCT? You gotta be kidding me that's over 1/3 the price of a well negotiated fully loaded car.

Yeah that sounds about right, but OP says he just had the clutchpack replaced. I am curious what that would cost.

Hmmm seems like 25 is way too much to me. My wife had her auto replaced on a 535 right at the end of the warranty and it showed 8k on the bill, new trans, fluid, and labor. I'm not calling anyone out as I have no facts but it is hard to believe that the DCT could be 25.

This was awhile ago when everyone was scared of the DCT and am sure these numbers thrown around we're hyperbole to freak people out. 12-13 looks right from what I've seen, manual about 5k. Hopefully DCT becomes more of the norm and thus costs drops, fingers crossed. Wonder what OP cost was and what actually was done.

I remember clearly, that someone paid around 27k to get the replacements of the engine installed from the BMW dealership.

In addition I had my DCT transmission replaced after the car was driven 6500 Miles and the repair bill was around 12k including the Transmission, Two DCT clutches, and Installation.

Going back to the topic, I haven't really heard anyone replacing the clutches on the DCT. Were their any other symptoms other than the slip?

Clutches are wear items, regardless of how sophiscated/ complicated/ expensive the application. I know that the BMW Performance Center replaces DCT cluthes, not sure how often. Their M3s are driven like rented mules with numerous launches, most with a car load of people.

Symptoms were slipping gear changes on clutch 1 of 2. It only affected gear change from 1 to 2. Changes from 2 to 3 use the other clutch. Changes from 2 to 3 are very fast.

To provide more details on the problematic clutch gear changes felt the same no matter the shift profile (S1-S6).

For example with TC off and S6 selected gear changes from 1 to 2 are sluggish and felt like it slightly slipped under load (7k+ RPM).

Gear change from 2 to 3 pulls you back in the seat in S5 and S6, major difference in shift speed. I should be getting the car back today and will post how much it would have cost.

I am curious to hear as well. DCT seems flawless so far through 15k miles. Might be a really compelling reason to extend the warranty if any DCT issues start arising after the initial warranty expires.

Not to argue with something professionally diagnosed, but of course the clutch slips at 7k RPM going from 1 to 2. A worn out clutch will show slipping if you are shifting from 6th to 7th at lower RPM. The RPM would climb greater than the speed.

Even a manual clutch is essentially a lifetime unit these days. You shouldn't look at a replacement until the car is over 100k. If you are doing enough speed shifting at 7k RPM every day, maybe you are asking for it...

Yeah, or stick to 6MT if the car is kept past warranty.
