DCT in 335is same as...

Quick question: Is the 7speed DCT transmission that comes in the 335is the same as the DCT in the M3?

Yes. However I noticed that you can put the 335is into Park. Which people say is not the case in the M

I know it has a 7 speed DCT, not sure if it's the exact same as ours (M3 owners) though.

same hardware different software. 6 settings on the M, much more aggressive and blips throttle on downshifts very aggressively. This does not happen on the 335is

I too thought it's just regular 7 speed automatic transmission with tiptronic... not 7 Speed DCT...

nope dct. bmw does not have any 7 speed autos. 6 speed and 8 speed ZF auto trannies. An 8 speed DCT would be heavenly! with 8th being total highway cruiser length and 7 being close ratio instead of moderate ratio as it is now

Yeah, it gets DCT now. I know no more than that, but it is a dual clutch trans.

I believe it's a little different. Isn't the option less for the 335is than for the M3?

The DCTs available in Non M models 335is, Z4 3.5is etc are all the same

If I recall correctly the E9x M DCTs are programmed differently and have a different Final Drive among other things....

The 335is and the Z4 S-Drive35is have the same DCT hardware that the M3 does, though some of the programming (clutch slip and engagement time, if I had to guess) might be a little different for each car.

The 335i (not the s) has had a DCT transmission in Europe for a couple of years now.

Yes--it's the 335is not the 335, unless you're in Europe. It has less settings than the m3's dct tho

2011 and newer 135i also have a dct option instead of the automatics now.

Price gouging on BMW's part? They charge more simply because they can. Its why they charge 'extra' for automatic tranny's even though the take rate is higher than stick transmissions. Based on all the materials that I've seen the hardware is the same and it does have rev matching (test driven a 335is but no M3) so I can't say just how different they actually feel in application but I'd doubt there's much of a difference to justify the 2k price difference.

Yeah! And what's up with the M3 ZCP and the M3 CRT? WHY THEY GOTTA BE ALL UP IN THE M3 GTS' BIDNIZ?! BMW should just make the 328i and the M3 GTS, just so those 328 owners know exactly where they stand.

My gripe is about making 10 different versions of the same car that are very closely priced and perform closely as well. Isn't the GTS like $140,000? ZCP is just an option not another car like the 335is. I don't got a clue what the CRT is.Is that new?

Yeah, I wish the M3 would maintain its specialness, but with every new model coming out(with M3 parts) with another letter behind it's name just brings it down. I thought 335i was close enough performance-wise anyhow... It's not about putting people where they belong by what they drive. I was the same guy when I was driving my pathfinder, couldn't give a shit what other people were driving(all sorts of nice cars). I knew I was going to get the car that I wanted to drive someday. It just takes away from the experience.

edit: Looks like the GTS is $163k and CRT is the sedan version of the GTS at $185k.
