The UK market is fairly conservative when it comes to colour choices and at least a couple of those cars will be complete no-no's for most people, and difficult to sell. The dealer pricing is low, for such highly specced cars too.

Don't forget also that UK drivers of company provided cars (as these are) are taxed on a formula which includes the list price, as supplied. So each of the original users will be paying more tax on these than they would on a more mainstream spec.

Strategy notwithstanding, ex-BMW "management" cars are generally a good choice, with most toys included, and in near pristine condition when they get into the BMW AUC network. And they are usually specced to ensure that they sell quickly.

I bought my wife an ex-BMW GB 330d M-Sport Tourer with most toys, and there were numerous similarly specced cars available at the same time. All sold very quickly.

Santorini Blue? The Green thing. I cant see them selling quickly.....
We need an insider to comment ; )

Didn't know about the taxes...since well, I live in the US - thanks for the info.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to highlight the individual options - I know most dealers here won't even mention it unless pressed.

I do agree that BMW has made quite a few gimmicky "special" BMWs - Edition, Frozen Gray, and the Frozen Silver models. IIRC, the Frozen Gray was a 25th anniversary model. All of those are E92s...only special E90 I've seen is the CRT...which we won't get.

If you are talking about individual orders, then yes. IMO, you see a lot more individual colors with the E9X M3 because there is a sponsor here that makes it pretty painless. When you couple that with the fact that you can take ED of an M car nowadays...its makes sense. Don't think ED was offered for the E46 M3.

If someone kept stats, I would guess that a lot of the individual order M3s are also ED cars.

ED always have been available for the M3, the difference now (since early 2009) is that the ED price discount is available.

I was told that ED was not available on my 09 M3 (09/08 build date). Never followed up to see if it was true. Didn't really think that I could take the time off work anyway.

It was, just not at the 7%-14% discount.

This was an ED back in June 2008 (one of the first, if not the first, in this forum): http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153111

Technic, do you what made BMW USA start offering a discount on ED cars.

Canada's really didn't have a proper ED program (that wasn't a total hassle) until Mark's M took delivery of his in May 2010. No discounts for us. I'm wondering if there's a possibility of discounts in the future...

Fixed. I think.

My guess is the tanking of the economy by Sept 2008 and the 1700+ 2008 M3 still at dealers lot by Dec 2008 forced the decision.

IMO, if BMW wanted to move some 2009 M3 in this mess then "normal" incentives ($8500 minimum trunk money on 2008 M3 by then) were not going to cut it. Therefore, ED discounts.

I read on here something like the discount comes from some incentive that BMW Gmbh pays to BMWNA that is avoided when taking delivery through ED. When you order a car through ED, it does not count against the dealer's allocation as well.

If you think about it, the E39 M5 and E46 M3 were really the first mass produced M cars where it would make sense to offer discounts on. The E36 M3 doesn't really count since we never got the "real" M3. I think the Z3M and Z4M was produced in SC??? IIRC, the E46 M3 sold, for the most part, near or at MSRP in the US Unlike the E9X M3... which often sells closer to invoice.

Maybe it took BMW a couple of years to figure it out and started offer the ED discount??? I think you canadians need to be come super cheap SOBs like us americans and maybe they'll start doing the ED discount for you guys.
