protection plan

Hi I am new to the forum and am glad found it.
I would appreciate any input or suggestions in regards to my questions.

I have leased my 2008 M3 for 3 years and am planning to buy it after a lease expires in a couple of weeks. I am covered for another 8K miles with the manufacturer warranty. The dealership recommends to buy the Vehicle protection plan which for M3 will cost a good amount.
A couple of questions come to mind: Do I really need the protection plan? and if yes, then what would be the best way to go?

if you want a warranty for piece of mind, I would recommend you shop around for one.

I bought BMWs protective plan, but it was the higher one that was an exclusionary warranty that covered what I needed.

In most cases, if the car is solid, it would be a waste of money. But then again, you are paying for that "insurance".

If you do go with the BMW warranty, be careful to examine what is and isn't included, read the fine print.

@mdyaman

Thank you for your input. Do you have any suggestions on what systems of the car might needs to be covered? Are there any plans you would recommend?

In the same boat as my lease ends in January. I was considering just getting the warranty and not the maintain. portion. Are you saying there are different types of warranties offered?

@vinnycg

The Vehicle Protection Plan my dealership offered was by Fidelity Warranty Services Inc and had 5 levels of coverage in terms of the systems it covers and duration of the coverage.

As what the name implies, 'Insurance'. You may or may not use it. It is just a peace of mind that you are covered just in case. It is only you who can answer your question. Some people prefer to have one while others don't. No matter what, you have a solid car in your stable.
