This happened to me too ... was a false alarm at one time ...
1) Check your oil level and see how much it is. 2) Is your alarm light amber (Caution) or red (Immediate action). Did you check your manual? I would call BMW Roadside assistance we have paid for that service. If you use the oil you have (after you talk to BMW and they say it is okay) drive normal to the first BMW dealership they then should drain the oil and refill with syncretic oil .... Good Luck

Happened to me when i was going to vancouver, put the closest u have in your car and treat your car like break-in period.
Really recommend to do an oil change soon after

Also where are you? What mountain? One of the members can be pretty close to you so he can drive and give you a bottle of oil

they probably can't do much other than advise a tow to a local dealer...they really aren't that much help
Are you parked on a hill? See if it doesn't come on again. and see if a member is near by, or if a dealer is near by

SOS is your best bet. BMW assist did not help me when i was stuck. They just offered to tow my car to somewhere.
SOS connects you to BMW and they should be able to tell you what is your best option

Okay. I pressed the SOS button and the guy told me that the recommended oil is 10w 60, but if I have mobile one sae 0w-40 it was okay to use. I recorded the conversation too, just in case. I guess I'll have to drive like break in till Friday. This sucks.

Don't worry it's not the end of the world if you used a sub-par level of oil, yes we drive performance cars and yes we should be using 10W 60 oil but that doesn't mean in an emergency you can't use lesser weight. Think about it like this, I prefer to drink Camus XO but if Hennessy VSOP was the only option I'd still take it. It's not as good but it's still good. |

Well done .... just get BMW to change the oil once you get back ... go easy on the way home pretend you are driving a fiat or something similar (it will be over soon) drive slower in the right lane
