Two Questions: Delivery before registration; odometer readings

Ladies and Gentlemen, I tried some searching but haven't really found what I'm looking for. I have two questions I'd like your input on:

Quick background: I ordered my M3 from the factory and it will be delivered to my local dealer on Wed.

1. Would you wait to inspect the vehicle before getting all the title/registration paperwork rolling? BMW already sent me all the documents I need to title the car and since I already have a license plate, I can easily transfer the existing registration. Basically, I could roll into the dealership, slap my license plate on, throw my insurance card in the glove box, and get to driving! Good idea? bad idea?

2. What kind of mileage should I expect there to be on the vehicle when I see it for the first time? I saw one picture on here that read 1 mile! I've also heard of people having nearly 20. I would expect it to match the odometer statement...but who knows what the dealership will do with it before they deliver it to me?

Thanks for your time!

1. Sure, do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

2. Probably 5-10 miles. Those with 1-2 miles picked them up in Europe. Additional miles come from loading on the boat, car carrier etc.

Congrats on the car, be sure and post pics!

Inspect the car before you commit to purchase. I have seen too many new cars that have been repainted, have bad scratches, etc.

Second question is easy to answer. My car had 6 miles on it so I think the typical range is 5-15 miles.

The answer to your first question isn't as straight forward because I think it depends on the individual as well as their relationship with the dealer. I understand the pros/cons of both so it's really up to you and which approach you are comfortable with. I had no problem with finalizing the paperwork prior to seeing and inspecting the car. Good luck!

most dealers put gas in the car. They often have to drive to the gas-station. I could imagine that it leads to a mile or two. I usually see 6-8 miles on the odo.

Show pics to prove!!!

0.2 is usually the trip meter from when they unload of the transport (from Regensberg) to driving to the Welt floor. 1-2 miles are put on from leaving the factory floor, to the car transporter, etc.

It was actually 0.1 when I first saw it, but rolled over to 0.2 when they moved it from the initial display area.

I have always insisted on inspecting the car before completing title/registration paperwork. The dealer can have all the forms filled out and ready for your signature when you pick up the car. It may mean an extra half hour...no big deal.

My factory ordered E92 had eight miles on the clock when it was delivered.

I just bought a new scan tool at my shop, it uses the same interface and has the same functions as the factory GT-1 BMW scanner. Anyways I was screwing around with it and it gave me the option to reset the odometer to 0 (I'm assuming). Only if the odometer was 255km or below and I'm also assuming it only allows you to do this once. Either way I found this very interesting.

Pretty crazy since the car is put on a dyno and onto a truck and off the truck and onto the boat and off the boat and onto a truck and then off the truck at the dealer.
