Acute Performance | Adv1 SL Series
Hi Everyone,
I'm proud to announce Adv1's newest lineup the SL Series. What's the big deal? Well, the wheels are built to each car's specific load rating which means each wheel has just enough material to be safely used on that car and that car only. In the end, you get the lightest, strongest wheel possible for your specific car. For more detailed information check the second picture. I got that brochure in my e-mail today. I really like the 1 piece track specific SL's... I'm sure they are extremely expensive though. Especially with titanium lug nuts coming standard (I think they are ~$800 separately)

The Track Specific SL is pretty expensive. 6 wheels are needed along with 2 tires. Then a front and rear wheel are intentionally destroyed for testing purposes.

Holy crap. They make you pay for the extra wheels for testing purposes? and why the 2 tires?

Tires are mounted to the rims to do load testing and pushed to failure. Yes they do make you pay for the extra wheels. It would be near impossible and too big of an investment to test all styles on all possible cars. Track Specific SL is definitely not for everyone, just another option Adv1 is putting out there for folks who demand the lightest and strongest wheels for their car.
BTW, this is also why BBS FI wheels are only made for a few applications. |

Maybe so...but BBS doesn't require the purchase of additional wheels for "testing". That sounds sketchy, sorry...

Why does it sound sketchy? Let me try explaining again.
BBS FI = 1 Style Adv1 SL = 6 Styles BBS only had to test 1 front and 1 rear wheel. Adv1 would have to test 6 front and 6 rear wheels. Now, for example, let's say BBS FI only works for 3 car models: 996 TT, M3, 997 TT. Each car model has different load ratings. That would mean BBS had to have tested 6 wheels (3 Models * 2 BBS FI). Now onto Adv1. Adv1 is stating they can make it for any car model you want. Imagine if they had to front this cost themselves it would be a lot more than 6 wheels tested. Does that make more sense and less sketchy? Michael Owner Acute Performance |

would this be under $10k (for 6 wheels and 2 tires)?

Here's an example of what Track Specific SL is capable of. An 18x12 wheel for a Lamborghini Gallardo came in around 18lbs.
To be honest, TS SL is not for everyone -- certainly not for me. Prices at MSRP start at $24,000 for a set of 6 which is going to be laughable and unreasonable for most of us, but believe me, there are dedicated track folks who will pay for it. Adv1 knows the price is high but they also don't intend this to be a high demand wheel just another unique option for a niche crowd. I'd say if you like the designs, stick with the Standard SL which MSRPs at $7500. Michael Owner Acute Performance |

so to be clear...this "reputable" company, is asking the customer to front the cost of wheel testing?
seems like something a wheel company should be fronting themselves if they want to operate. or maybe it's that with a price tag of 24k msrp...there isnt enough margin? I'm actually shocked to see this. It would be like a restaurant requiring you to order 2 steaks so they could verify the quality of the meat before eating the second one.
