Because BMWs are the Ultimate Drivers Machine (on a side note isn't it a shame they don't use that as much), and the M3 is the Ultimate Ultimate Drivers Machine!

Seriously, I had 2x 3-series (both 320Ds) and a 5-series (a 525D) in the past and loved them, then had a track day in an E46 M3, and *really* fell in love. If there had been a dealership at the exit if the track, I would have bought one then and there ... and now I have an E93 M3 on order...!

1. This has been my dream car since pretty much my forever.

2. As others have said, balance between performance and practicality.

3. I plan to keep my car for at least 6-10 years. Aesthetically, I think M3s age incredibly well and don't look outdated like standard 3ers. It might just be that I am sentimental about this car, but whenever I see a well kept e46 M3 or on occasion an e36 M3 while out and about, I always say to myself "what a beautiful car".

4. Also on the aesthetic front, the whole "lion in a sheep's clothing" thing appeals to me. To most on the road, this car is probably taken as just another BMW 3 series. However to those of us in the loop, we know all about the beast that lies within. RAWR!

5. I know that I will smile every single time I get in my car.

It's understated, has four doors, five seats, and a nice trunk. AND it has a CRAZY engine and it steers and handles awesomely.

went from M3 to a CTS-V to a Z06. Now, I'm back to the M3. Nuf said. Take it from me - it's the greatest car you can own.

CTS-V: awesome motor, gadgety interior although severely lacking in build quality, both inside and out.
Z06: Unbelievable soundtrack with tear your face off speed and handling, however, along with through your back out suspension. Terrible seats, NAV, sound system and overall interior quality. Nothing is faster for the money.
M3 - great speed, great sound, great handling, exceptional build quality and styling. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

they 70k because the dealer loads them up with junk. This is a 55k car and I wouldn't pay more than 58k for one. Look around...
