DCT to MT

I am currently driving a 08 DCT M3. I am looking to switch to MT. Any idea if I can pay a reasonable price to ask BMW to replace the gear box, or do I need to dispose of my DCT M3 and buy a MT M3?

I guess anything is possible with enough time, expertise, and money, but I seriously doubt you'll be able to do a gearbox swap for any reasonable amount of cash -- especially since this would also entail ECU and iDrive software changes, a final drive swap, new center console trim, etc....

And of course you'll be paying a lot of money to make a change that will likely result in LOWER resale value (both because it's MT and because it wasn't originally MT), so you'd have to want MT really bad to make this worthwhile. And even all that assumes you can find a shop that's willing to take the job and knowledgeable enough to actually do it correctly. That would probably be the hardest part since I doubt you'll find a tech who's ever done this before, and I also doubt this is a procedure covered in a service manual, official or otherwise. Do you want your car to be that tech's guinea pig on something as crucial as a transmission?

Just buy a new car. The electronics alone would be a nightmare.

In US, it would be better to just get an M3 with MT. Now you're in Honk Kong, and I bet M3s are very expensive there.. So it might be cheaper to do tranny swap. There was a guy in this forum from Egypt, he converted 335i to M3 (minus engine) or something like that. Maybe he can give you some pointers...

It is not an easy task though. I would just get an M3 with MT.

Just the thought of thisvswap sounds extremely expensive. I agree with everyone - get a MT car and forget about the swap.

He lives in HK... I believe cars are much more expensive there. It might even make sense to do a transmission swap...

Youre trade-in value will also be high. Get an 09 MT and I think the cost will be the same to swapping a trans. The 09 also have the new iDrive.

Not to mention that the resale on a car with a swapped transmission (one style for another) is going to be terrible. Who would want to take a risk of gremlins popping up later.
