wont be tracking my m3 anymore

I love my m3, but I'm getting to the point that if I push her much harder and mess up, the cost is just too prohibitive. So I got serious decided and took delivery of this yesterday.

'89 porsche 944 turbo s.
lsd
built motor
manual boost control
330 hp
cage
seats
6pt harness
17" wheels w 275 hoosier square setup.

if the turbo 4 banger is not enough or I dont like the turbo, its a perfect contender for a Z06 lsx swap

need to do some preventative maintenance. Shes been sitting. so timing belt, fluids, brakes..etc.etc. then onto my first de, and hopefully pca or scca racing . Even picked up the trailer so im self sufficient.

everyone on this side of the forum have always seemed to be drivers first, so I thought others would enjoy.

Awesome!

Nothing like a dedicated track car. There's a huge 951 community over at Rennlist.

Have fun!

I totally see your point dizzyj. I personally have stayed in the bmw fold - picked an e36 m3.

It was hard to not get an e36, but a couple things pulled me to this car
1) the m3 like 50/50 weight distribution 2) the large DIY community 3) it's a great platform for upgrade (lsx, widebody kits. Etc). And finally 4 I've bees doing endurance racing in a friends 924s. This allows me to practice within the family so to speak

I'll still probably take my m3 on the occasional de, especially when there is downtime with a 25 year old car, but if the worst case were to happen I know I'd be safe in the 951, and would not break the bank. This is all new to me, never even driven a 951, just the Na 924s. I hope she's as much fun as the m3 was.

I would say once you get used to the turbo lag of the car (any turbo car is going to have more of an on/off nature on the track), you will have way more fun in that car. Just from what I've seen on the track, the race-prepped 944 Turbos are very dominant. Good luck and post some pics of your first track day in it.

Congrats. This is one of the cars I'm considering for my future track car. I'm more interested in S2 since I don't want the turbo lag etc. Putting LSx in these cars are quite popular and relatively cheap. As you said, it makes this car a very good platform.

Congrats OP! I went to an E36 earlier this year and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Buying built is the way to go!

Why not sooner? While I miss the S65 roar on the track, it's very nice not having to worry about what will happen at the limit in certain corners.

So very jealous....I've been quietly shopping for a 944 for track use. Congrats on the purchase, those cars fly around the track. I love the 4-banger, it's a great motor and you'll adjust in no time.

Oh...did I say I'm jealous.

Weight depends on the model but it is around 2800-2900lbs as stock. Idk how much savings can be done by stripping the interior.

Nice thing about this car is that you can stuff some serious tires in there without messing with the body too much.

She certanly can go on a diet. the floors and rear seats are gone, but she still has power windows, locks, speakers..etc..etc

right now she has 245 65r18's Looks like I could easily go wider on the back, but with racing slicks should be beyond my ability to drive.

Oh, and there is a sticker on the top from VIR for a NASA winner. This isnt just a track car, shes a race car
