This is probably the worst case of bystander effect...completely disgusted.

For those who don't want to read or watch:

• In Fushan, China, a 2 year old little girl was ran over by a van
• By-passers see her, but ignore this litle girl who is flopping around and screaming in pain
• A second van runs over this little girl, who is still screaming and crying for help
• More by passers ignores her as they pass by
• After 18(!) by-passers, a garbage lady(#19) walks by and finally recognizes that this girl is in trouble
• The mom finally hears the cry for help and comes running out to hold her dying little girl in her arms
• These chinese people disgust me(and I'm chinese) ...actually they always have, but this just heightens it.

1. Fuck the driver of the first truck. How the hell did that fucker NOT see the kid, much less run her over. Then he stops, almost as if he knew, then continued on and ran her over again.

2. Fuck all the bystanders who looked at her and didn't do shit. I was probably quite obvious that she was hurt.

3. Fuck the 2nd truck driver, refer to #1, except he didn't stop and simply speed bumped her.

4. Fuck all the other bystanders who did what #2 did.

5. Thank god one person stopped to help her.

6. Fuck the mother for letting her 2 year old wander off. None of my kids EVER left my sight when they were that age.

Like in previous instances, people were quick to label it an example of the Peng Yu effect. This refers to a 2006 incident when an elderly Nanjing woman fell and later successfully sued the man who helped her, Peng Yu, for 45,000 yuan ($6,900) claiming that he pushed her down.


So now in situations where nobody helps, it's portrayed that Chinese are more worried about legal liability than helping a fellow person in need. It gives a pretty grim commentary on the state of Chinese society.

According to reports the van driver had just split up from his girlfriend and was talking on his mobile phone when he hit the girl.
"If she is dead, I may pay only about 20,000 yuan ($3,125). But if she is injured, it may cost me hundreds of thousands yuan," said the driver over the phone to the media, before he gave himself up to the police.
