Glad almost everybody is okay, and nobody was killed considering.

Nope. But I did wear mine when I was on the ring.

I've driven an M3, a Porsche, an E30 BMW and a Z06... the Z06 would have killed me first and I have a lot of car/driving experience.

Maybe they should have put the warning sign further back instead of as you come flying off a turn.... Sucks nonetheless

Sounds cool chris. Skid pads are fun. Always good to get some rain days in at the track. So much to learn.

Really great that nobody was killed - looks a pretty brutal crash. Hope the injured one recovers safely.

Really glad that it was a poorly done 993 RSR replica not a real example - now that would be a crying shame.

There IS an electronic warning sign when you enter the 'Ring (toll gates). I really don't know how useful they are to the drivers though. I think its more for the crowds of poeple hanging out in that area - to know whats going on.

Just in case you thought this was an isolated incident of poorly placed roadworks signs with no warnings: go to 07:46 to see the "close call".

PS: It is kind of weird how every video showing the track at the time of the eight car pile up - has been deleted or been moved to private. ???

i remember after the lauda linkskurve seeing that yellow truck pop up out of nowhere but off the line. whoever attempted a pass in the middle of that blind fast turn was a fool especially on a tourist lap. way too dangerous with no real gain.
i was in the VLN race the weekend before. even swapping paint with 2 other cars it was way more safe in that race than this past weekend driving with tourists. the excellent weather mixed with the german 3-day weekend made for a perfect storm of activity there.
i spent much of saturday on the GP track because it was just too busy on the Nordschleife. Sunday was even worse! I had one lap, took a student out for his first lap and then ducked out since it looked like the track would be closed for at least an hour. also to anyone going on public laps, don't go out right after the track opens from a long closure. everyone is so anxious to get back out there its almost sure to close again right away due to another accident.

What scares me the most is that I often see photos of guys running the Ring without helmets. I don't know the Ring's rules and regulations, but do they not require helmets?

To get in an accident like that without a helmet is absolutely terrifying...
Actually, it's not that simple. The helmet rule has in particular been put in place for cars that are not equipped with airbags, such as fully race-prepped cars with roll cages. For these, you absolutely need to wear a helmet as there is no other protection.

However, for 95% of the cars driving during the Touristenfahrten on the 'Ring which are not prepped like that but are normal street cars, a helmet would most likely make things worse, as the crash tests and passive safety measures of normal cars do not take wearing a helmet into account.

no because the majority of ppl i know that drive vettes are asshats that think they are the greatest drivers ever, and you have to be good to keep a vette in line when hauling ass through turns........my guess is it got away from him.....
