Anyone annoyed by the speedometer setup?

the speedometer is usless.

The scale is impossible to estimate. The scale changes slightly as speed increases, and it gets harder to figure out what the exact speed is driving between 60-70, 70-80, and 80+ and it makes a big difference when you're boarderline getting a ticket. So therefore, most of us resort to using the digital reading, which is great, then why make the speedometer so damn big? Why not have a center tach like P cars or F cars in which it's simply used as an estimate for the "handle"?

Am I the only one annoyed by this?

Maybe a very small annoyance but I like BMW's layout vs others. It's so much more simple and easier to read in general vs having all these gauges in the dash.

If you think that is bad, I remember cars from the 80s most speedo stopped at 80.
I think anything over 80 and its a ticket waiting to happen, on the track/ having fun i rarely care what the speeodo says.
To answer our question, no it does not bother me, actually I never noticed it till now.

dude...you a genius!
seriously...this thing should have been colored...ie: as the scale increases the color deepens etc..

now I understand what felt wrong when I find myself unintentionally on a particular speed range...

All I kno is that when I'm going 60, I step on it, look back down at the speedo, and it's now 80. From 80, i look up, step on it look back down and it's at 100. All it takes is a blink of an eye to go an extra 20mph. This car is sweetness

Owning an M3 or whatever car does not exempt you from speed limits.

It's never bothered me as the metric scale doesn't change that way. But even if it does, I'm barely in that speed unless at the track. Which at that point, I do wish it would be like the Porsche layout.

I love using the digital display in the center for speed, so no, it doesn't bother me.

Never really bothered me...

Isn't the speed displayed in 3 different places?
1. Spedo
2. Digital Readout
3. Idrive (may only be when actually using for guidance)

It also displays the speed on my Escort if it detects any Radar bands

I have a 911 (997) and an M3 and I find that I use the digital speedo (big numbers right in the center display in the tach) in the 911 and the analog one in the M3. The 911's analog speedo is a little small and the numbers make pretty big jumps (50-75-100-125) so while it is more linear since it doesn't compress the scale above 80 like the M3, it's actually a bit harder to read at a quick glance. And of course, it is a bit off center. Long story short, both are fine for my needs. The M3's 2 big gauges do seem a bit simple in comparison when I alternate between the cars though.

It has "200" on it. My truck stops at like "120".
I love it

Not to mention...I've never had a cop pull me over for going 68 in a 65. Even in the M. I'm sure they have a grace window before pulling you over. Even with the smaller scale, I'm still able to keep it where the cops leave me alone...so far...*knocks on wood*.

Good on ya mate!

I personally use the taco and the digital read out only so the analogue speedo is rarely look at. I do agree that it serves little to no purpose though!
