Does Anyone Like Their Bmw M Performance Exhaust?

I've been reading through some of the exhaust reviews for our M3s and it seems like there is a lot of negative feedback (usually from people who don't have the M Performance exhaust) about the factory M Performance exhaust upgrade and why the aftermarket exhaust they bought for their M3 is better. I'd like to hear from those of you who have the performance exhaust upgrade and why you like or dislike it.

My car is a 2009 E90 M3 sedan that will be used as a daily driver and will get some track duty a few times per year when open top cars are not allowed (usually track my Z4M roadster). Looking for only slightly louder than stock, better look (particularly the tips), and possible increase in performance.

Thank you in advance for your input.

That's odd, I see nothing but positive comments about it. The sound is good, no drone, it's OEM, it's made of a good material, etc... It's not too loud but not too quiet either, which is a plus for people trying to not wake up the neighborhood in the morning.

I think the only negatives about it are the price. It's rather expensive for just a slip on.

The main negative I see posted is about using it with an aftermarket x-pipe. I was planning on using mine with my AA x-pipe when the car arrives but not sure if I should just sell the muffler or what.

you will always find those that will state reasons why they did not purchase something/defend their purchase decision...some do this by making negative remarks regarding said non-purchased product...

for me, if the perf exhaust tips were bigger, I would have spent a little more for it than my current akra slip-on...both sound good in their own unique way...

only negative comments I've read/seen regarding the perf exhaust is cost and perhaps peeling paint on the tips...and cost can be said about most all exhausts...

I've had 9 different exhaust combos. M Performance is still the winner

Are you currently only using it with the stock x-pipes or have you tried other combos with it?

I got one and the sound is fantastic. No drone and no aftermarket loudness.
Something like this:

all OEM, only way I tried it.

Not interested in dealing with most aftermarket stuff anymore. Don't want to deal with CEL, Inspection, Warranty, Quality, Fitment, etc.... for a couple unnoticeable HP.

I like the way the performance exhaust sounds each time I hear it. Only time will tell if I jump on it.

I love this exhaust. The M3 should have come from the factory sounding like this.

That's my car in the video above.

Fantastic sounding exhaust, love mine! I'm cool with the OEM size tips (laser etched ///M tips are badass)...I removed the inner paint and painted the cans black which made a huge difference appearance wise. It's only slightly louder than the standard exhaust cruising but when you get on it, it screams and the tone is WOW! Extremely tasteful and neighborhood friendly output while sounding OH SO GOOD! Although I do wish it had a tad more output without changing the note.

I only know of Eisenmann making an Inconel exhaust but that's
around $7K at last check. The M Performance at $3.5K isn't a bad price.

Just for fun, I'm going to put on an Eisenmann Race to see how I like a louder exhaust...it's an illness.

I want to like this exhaust, but it just sounds like it has a hollow sound to it. It's hard to explain-kinds of like revving it inside a garage. I don't hear this (online clips) with the other exhausts.

Yeah, it's not as bassy as other aftermarket exhausts. It does have a hollow howl that sounds really exotic to me.

I just sold my Performance Exhaust but no complaints at all with it, I just sold it to get an Akrapovic Evolution System since I couldn't pair my Performance Exhaust with any X-pipe, it became too raspy
The Performance Exhaust sound is awesome, I am going to miss it for sure but some HP gain with the akra will be also nice to experience

Thanks for the input everyone, sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! I like the idea of painting the cans black since most of the complaining I came across was about seeing the cans under the car like the stock exhaust.

Cheers!------------C

I love mine! I just did a 500 mile trip with it, and it was superb. Absolutely no drone while cruising along with traffic, but it came alive anytime I dipped into the throttle to overtake. Also, I have had no problems with the finish of the tips, which is the only real complaint i've seen about this exhaust.

Your car looks and sounds great!

Where are you guys buying your ///M Perf exhaust from? Will your dealer put it on if you buy it from someplace else, and will it carry the manufacturer warranty?

This is the only exhaust I'm considering.

Wow that sounds awesome! Getting my M in a few weeks and this just became a contender.

I've seen the paint issue thread but what's this about aftermarket x-pipes? It can't be paired with any? And edu09 it became raspy?! That's definitely a turnoff.

the manufacturer warranty will be voided if you don't install it at a BMW dealer, you can install it at any dealer but their cost is much higher than with any other shop, here in South FL installation fees at a BMW dealer vary from $250 to $500, any other place will cost you only $150

?? Says who? They would have to prove that your installation was done improperly and caused a failure as a result in order to void a warranty. If you install it properly, regardless of who is doing the install, your warranty should remain unaffected.
