Fire Orange Option

I just placed the order for my 2011 E92 M3 today (Space Gray, Fox Red, ZCP, Convenience Package, Premium Package, EPS). The car will be here in 6-8 weeks. I am so excited and can't wait to take delivery.

Here's the dilemma. The dealer offered me a 2011 E92 M3 in Fire Orange with ZCP (black wheels). The paint is a $5000 option. The car comes with DCT. No other options. Cloth seats, no packages, no nav etc. I think its an attempt by the dealer to create a GTS. The car is also $2600 more than my order. Would anyone here consider this over the car I purchased? It's extremely basic and the cloth seats are not for me but the pictures of the car are fantastic. It looks like such a beast. I have 3 weeks to decide before the dealer takes delivery. Does anyone think the paint will help the car retain value longer. Or will the lack of options cancel that out?

Thanks for the help.

Why anybody would buy an orange car is beyond me...they're fucking ugly and resale on them would probably be for shit. Just goes to show some people have money to waste.

I think an Individual color like Fire Orange reduces the pool of resale buyers, but it reduces that pool to a group with stronger potential since they would appreciate the uniqueness of the color and would be willing to pay for something of a collector's item.

On top of that he goes from a pretty loaded car to one that is basically stripped, and costs $2600 more solely for the clown color "uniqueness". I assume he is ordering a loaded car because he cares about those things, so why this thread?

I wouldnt care if they gave me a 10k discount on it, yellow cars are ugly enough imagine trying to get rid of an orange one.

You're right JCE. The options are important. I also ordered Space Gray knowing the Fire Orange was available. The reason I submitted the thread was the dealer is trying to sell me on the exclusivity of the color. Being that I have not seen this particular option on the BMWUSA website, I wanted to see if anyone saw the value in it. Judging by some of the response it appears that it is quite the contrary.

In any case, the responses listed have helped me realize my current purchase with Space Gray is the way to go.

I hear you can't go wrong with SG and fox red.

I love the FR, but if I had to do it over again I would order the black. The FR leather shows wear pretty quickly.

Buy the color that you will like seeing in the driveway/garage every day. Buy the car to use and enjoy, not as an "investment" (a surely depreciating investment).

And individual color and a basic car package are probably going to give you issues with resale down the road. Most used car buyers are looking more at the packages the car came with more than the paint (assuming both are in good condition).

Speed cloth buyers are not the majority of M3 owners. So you take that minority, then divide it again with the sub set of people that like the "wild" individual colors... You'll probably get bent over if you ever want/have/need to sell it in the future.

Exactly! Resale comments are silly, especially because anything outside of a white/black/silver exterior and/or black/grey interior can, and will, affect "resale" (..i.e...colored leather, etc.). Buy what YOU want to drive, be it shit brown or menstrual cycle red. I would have opted for an Individual car in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity.

I like the orange, it looks cool but I wouldn't buy it. Stick with exactly what you ordered, it will be worth the wait.

I like the fire orange. If I was going to pay $5000 for an individual color, I would want to pick the one I want... not pay for a color the dealer picked out and optioned poorly. I think any of the m3 options, no matter how superfluous are worth 100X more than having the car painted a different color.

I would go for the non-bloated orange car myself if it wasn't crippled with an automatic.

I do like the orange though.

I agree with most posters here...This is a very personal choice decision.

Me personally? I'd want a Frozen black or Frozen Silver on fox red if I had to do it again. And then I'd load the crap out of it with Nav, ZCP, DCT etc...

If the dealer is offering you this Orange car then they have no prospects for the sale. It's probably a canceled customer order. Hard to enjoy the color while your driving the car. Stick with SG/FR, you will be much happier in the long run.

orange is a cool color. if youre planning to own the car for a long time, go for it !! but in terms of resale, you will rule out a lot of buyers with orange....

most people wont come anywhere close to a red car, unless youre in your 20s or early 30s. let alone orange !
