Here is a clip of the stock exhaust and X pipe.

I decided to try out an x pipe with my OEM muffler until the matching muffler arrives. From what I've read, I expected it to be raspy but hoped it would have 'some' good tone as well, or at least a slight improvement until the muffler arrives. IMO it is absolutely gutless with NO bass whatsoever! I also think it cheapens the car and I am totally embarrassed when driving around with this setup .

My short term plan is to revert back to the OEM muffler until the other muffler is ready.

Here yah go

What brand of x-pipe?

Catted? Catless?

You say revert back to OEM muffler....do you mean OEM x-pipe?

It is an MRF catless X pipe.

Yes I meant to type OEM x-pipe.

The oem muffler paired with any catless x pipe will be raspy.

I actually think it sounds great! It is nice it has more of an OEM sound only a bit louder. If you want bass there are plenty of options but if you want OEM only louder this sounds absolutely fantastic. Is this with or without cats?

It sounds nice and raw. Kind of like a ferrari or lambo (only a different note and obviously quieter) but in the sense it is not totally refined and more raw of a sound. Love it!

Yikes! It sounds worse in person. A tin can kind of sound. I am about to go to Starbucks for a coffee and will post another so you can hear how it sounds, with all of the ugly farting and you tell me what you think (if you do...).

I'd rather ride my bicycle until the exhaust is complete

As for bass, I am not looking for all bass nor the Mustang rumble, but with absolutley no bass, it sounds gutless.

The only good sound I like is when the sounds reflects from houses, walls, etc while light on the throttle above 4.5K. The pitch is extremely high, I'd say higher than the Kreisseg; it sounds like a flute.

I was in Oregon at the time so it is ok. You just need the other drivers to do the same and it will be ok.

No seriously. My GoPro is faulty and doesn't allow me to get into the settings menu to change the orientation so I had to flip it in the editing program. Basically, you are viewing the mirror image :-)

yea, kinda sounds like mine paired with an Eisenmann sport. It's really raw (and loud), and probably not for everyone. I'd be fine if it didn't get super raspy and rattly between 2000 and 2100 rpm– kinda like a honda fart can w/ a little bass From there on, it's fairly 'normal' until you get on it and it's raw as I feel the car should be.

I can't wait for my axel back to tame it

I am not getting how people are saying this sounds bad. It sounds just like the OEM setup only louder. I have never heard anyone say the stock setup sounded "bad" but rather just too quiet. This is OEM sound amplified.

The major question is
1.Does it drone
2.Are there cats or not?

It does not drone.
It is totally cat-less.
The oem x pipe sound is much cleaner. I love the sound of the oem but with this setup, the rasp is overbearing the tones one hears most from the oem setup.
The gopro had the fully closed back to minimize wind noise, the video has the semi open back and actually sounds better.

I feel I should clarify if that's your take away from what I said. I love this x-pipe A LOT. It's meant to maximize power (which it does from some very clever design), and thus is extremely raw as it should be.

My only problem, is that it doesn't play nice with my Eisenmann axel-back (which it is not designed to). My Eisenmann can't really handle what the pipe produces, and when it hits 2000-2100 RPM, it resonantes with the mufflers A LOT. This might just be a problem with this specific pairing.. I'm not sure. There is no way MRF could or should anticipate that at all tho. It is undesirable, but they made it clear that this x-pipe should be paired with their axel-back for optimal sound. I agree, and have one on order (and so does L4CES) To me, the current pairing isn't something I'm ashamed to drive at all. It can be a little loud and obnoxious when you're trying to drive around quietly, but that'll happen with a lot of m3 exhaust pairings.

what about this MRF pipe is different from any other xpipe in how it will sound with any given rear box setup?

I tell everyone the same thing: The stock muffler paired with a fully cat-less midsection is either going to be love or hate, there is almost no grey area in the middle.

Any cat-less midsection I have installed with a stock muffler, I have personally disliked it while many people say they love it.

Catless anything will be raspy. Personally I don't like the sound.

Not in character for your car...yet. Jeez, I hope they get your exhaust out to you soon. You're going to scare everyone in Portland until then.

Yes, it is not in character with my car. The X pipes are fine... it is just the muffler. Since the X pipes are based on a modular design, I have the option to plug n play the HFC sections. The HFC will likely reduce some of the HP gains but that is ok with me if it sounds better until I get the matching MRF muffler.
