Just to be on the safe side.. I'd do the 10K miles break-in. And do another one at 20K to 30K... you'll be good to go after that.

Something I realized after reading some of these threads about break-in are that my car doesn't have a sticker on the windshield that talks about the break-in. Guess that means I don't have one.
Actually, I am doing the 1,200 break-in per what everyone has said. No taking her over 4,500 rpms, no going over 105mph, yada yada yada. After that I could care less what BMW says they think I should be doing. 1,200 is ridiculous to begin with. And then people are asking if they should continue breaking a car in for another 1,800 miles? That's just crazy. I don't care if I blow the motor, I'm not going to continue to baby a car after 1,200 miles. |

they stopped putting the stickers on the window, but it states the if properly broken in until 3000miles, the hover mode is unlocked, allow you to actually levetate of the ground and go up to speeds of 100mph, cool feature, cant wait to get there

Based on your posts (again, not sure if serious), I suggest reading the manual in your down time instead of visiting the forum. Otherwise, you're just going to get flamed more

Talked to my service manager about this. He said the dif fluid definitely has particles you don't see at any other service than the 1200 service, so obviously we're flushing stuff out early, but he also said on occasional WOT or near redline shift won't kill the car in this period. Porsche's break-in is 600 miles btw. Side note for dct owners, he said a new bulletin is out that does now NOT require clutch fluid change at 1200 miles. Found that interesting.

I'm betting your dif oil was changed, that's norm, it's the transmission fluid that they're apparently no longer changing. I'd call your service mgr. up and verify. Congrats on the car! Did you avoid redline or wot? Man it's tough!!

I was just wondering the same thing, I was about to post a thread until I saw yours, so thanks for saving me the time at least. I have 3 E9X's parked outside, two of them are 2011 and the one I just picked up is a 2012, the first two I just went WOT from day one but this one I'm taking it slow. Just got the 2000km break-in service done after just 3 days, yes I was eager. Now I'm going to slowly push the limits until 5000km BUT ONLY WHEN passing, otherwise I might void the warranty. My SA also told me after I get that service done then from 5000-6999 I should only go WOT twice as to protect the engine and keep it from using absolutely ANY amount of oil, also, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT use launch control until 79999km.
Side note - OP that other thread you made about the sounds when downshifting, I'm having that trouble also. It seems like our cars are related and were born at the same time in the same place at the same plant. Did you ever figure out on how to resolve the issue? I'm curious, my 2011's are fine but my 2012 sounds like it swallowed a fucking velociraptor and farts out BOV sounds, I think it wants to get a VT-650 put in and a barbie doll style intake, what are your thoughts on that?
