I'm still trying to figure out the scale, though. Were you standing right there? In other words, is the sand just a few feet from the camera? And what is that ridge running down the middle?

Mark,

It was taken in the middle distance and the ridge of sand is maybe 6 inches high. The shot is actually the same as the one below, only cropped, desaturated and increased in contrast to emphasize the graphical/minimalist elements. Hope that doesn't run afoul of our "photochopping" rules.

^^^^Wow. When it comes to artistry, Mother Nature puts us all to shame.

I don't see that cropping and desaturating is an issue. I think the rules mean you can't remove or add features, like a nicer sky.

Sometimes less is more. If done right you can convey a lot with just a little. I'm really liking the minimalism idea. Might have to change my submission if I get time to shoot something better soon.

Lovely, but it doesn't comply with the size limitations of the contest.

Aww, it's only 200px over.

I'll resize and edit my post.

[edit] Fixed it.

nice submissions so far!

As I told you guys before in the previous poll thread... I'll be leaving for vacation, and that time has come. I'll be back on 10/8. Although I'll probably have an intermittent internet connection while I'm gone, I cannot make the poll for this contest.

So, hopefully someone else here can step up next monday morning and make the poll for everyone. Thanks!

Good luck to all!

Very nice. I really think panicos81's shot gets the spare geometric abstraction this contest is about.

Look Over There

I took this on the Fourth of July in Lakeside, MI. It's a picture of the light emitted from downtown Chicago. I completely forgot about it until just now.

The vignetting is as a result of the dropoff in light where Chicago's skyline ends.
