The OP's statement that "it's still not an M3" sent this thread into a whole money/"class"/money doesn't buy class discussion, but the point I'd like to take away from it is that the behavior some drivers display around our cars is truly moronic. I can't tell you how many times I see guys in performance cars, whether they be modded Civics, Evos, STIs, 370Zs, G37 Coupes (all the time), or 328s, 335s, 535s, 550s, or 135s, going into Fast 'n' Furious mode and weaving in and out of heavy traffic.
Take it to the track. As someone posted above, why can't these dudes just give a thumbs up and say, "Nice ride..." ![]() |

Won't even comment on your post dbhg1124, I won't get into an argument about money or class, let alone race or country, there's douchebags everywhere driving all types of cars, YOU JUST PROVED MY POINT, and I won't take my "sympathy" anywhere, I respect people for who they are, not what they drive or have

The whole class thing is silly for starters. I use to be friends with a kid that had a brand new S4, when it was about a 45k car. He spent all his time working on and driving his old civic hatch with a motor swap. It was more fun...
Gasp...he did try to race people on the highway occasionally.

I dunno about New York but here display of money or status is pretty looked down upon. Millionaires drive Camrys, shop at Walmart and dress like every other person. They always say the people with the most money are the ones that don't spend it. If you make a lot of money and spend a lot of it then you don't have any of it.

For the amount of money some of these modders put into cars designed to be cheap an efficient, they could have bought a RWD car designed to perform. Some guy at a gas station parked next to me, came and talked to me. He liked the M3 so we talked about it, I asked about his car not because I was interested but to be nice. He had sunk 25k in mods on a 18k car. I was thinking to myself, why didn't you just buy a Mustang GT, Camaro, or something with RWD and mod that? When he pulled away, the car clattered and scraped concrete, then proceeded to show how effective FWD is for acceleration.
If that floats your boat, fine. But the engines are not designed for that kind of stress and heat. They will throw a piston, shatter rings, and throw out main bearings. It is just a matter of time... not to mention the transmitions shred. This is at the heart of why people probably question the intellect of this type of modding. Doesn't help that the exhaust sounds more like a weed eater than a race car. It comes off as loud, just to be loud.

I had a RWD car I purchased for $4K, then I sunk $25K into the car restoring it and modifying it. Most of the work I did myself in an apt parking lot on the weekends over 3 years. Dropping the new engine, replacing suspension bits, etc. In the end it was about as fast as a stock Evo or STI. Most people would say it doesn't make any sense as I could have purchased a faster car to start off with but I loved that car and enjoyed driving it. It was nice to get complements and people would be stunned that the car as old as it was looked like it was brand new. I ended up selling the car for $10K but I enjoyed the time I had with it and wish I could have kept it. |

it all depends why you got your car. Some of us just love the car for all it is. Looks great, drives awesome and the feel you get once you take it to the track will complete the satisfaction. There will be no need to prove anything, just joy of driving whatever you do with it.

yea, i dunno about the whole class thing... most of the people that drive those civics are younger, and can't afford something more expensive. It is all very relative. Someone that can afford a new ferrari, may not go for it. It is good to have the ability, but doesn't always mean you will do it. The only reason i am able to afford the m3 at my age, is because i don't have a family, and not looking to buy a house. If I did have a family and was looking for a house, i probably wouldn't go out and buy an M3, probably settle for something less expensive, but would still like to make it for my taste (tune, etc).... does getting a family puts me in a different class?
Plus, M3 is not the fastest car around, and if you buy it for that, then you made a wrong decision. I always give gredit to the tuners when it's due. I hate when people talk shit. I am a car enthusiast, and love to talk to any other car enthusiasts. Certainly I will talk crap about tasteless mods, showing off, etc... Tasteless mods include but are not limited to: sound system more expensive then the car oversized wheels bad tint stick on scoops anything from autozone shopping car spoilers "racing stickers" i.e. "type-r", "drag racer", etc etc people that lean back in their seat too much people that hold the wheel right in the middle, and have their arm kind of too high people that think they are too cool for this place (you can tell by the smirk on their face) stupid seat covers stupid little neon lights on the washers chrome that looks out of place |

I had some guy in Toyota Matrix up my ass for most of drive home last night, although things changed when we took those 'corners'..... It happens but what can you do? If I see a GTR or a Lambo I have to give respect, they are great cars but I would never tailgate or be an ass. The worst ones are the weekend F1-drivers driving minivans, they are truly annoying...
