Top gear last night with 470hp S65 engine
So not sure if it was first run or not but the top gear last night with richard testing those 2 different cars, neither of which I recognized the names. I believe this was an older episode. However the silver 1 seater (with passenger covered with a hatch) said it used the bmw S65 in 4 litre displacement with 470 hp! He said it was "tuned up to 470" and commented forsure it was still a "4 litre v8"
Which car is this by the way? How in gods name did they get 60hp out of a tune? |

It's the Veritas RS3. Pretty dumb car if ask me.
The HP figures could be spot on when considering crank HP and not to the wheels. Figure adding every bolt on with software, I think 60hp is attainable. Best, Tony

No it's concept version used the Mercedes AMG model S65 V12 engine. Confusing. The final production version used the s85 from the M5/M6. I didn't see the episode, but I don't know where they got 4 liter or 470hp. It should be either 5 or 6 liter, depending on the car they were using.

Nope, clearly is a S65 V8 from the M3 with 470 hp. Clearly it makes zero sense if it was an s85 detuned to 470 and topgear never gets things that wrong where they would mistake the engine completely. He even comments numerous times in the episode that the V8 is quiet and clearly if it were a v10 the exhaust note would be clear as day.
Back to the topic of how they got it. There is no debate on what the engine was! |

Here is an article describing its the V8 from the m3 with originally 420 PS but in their specs they list the size as 4999cc and 8800 RPMS. Maybe they stroked/bored it out which makes more sense.

I believe they later built the v10 version with the s85. Sounds like they cannot make up there mind with the amg engine, then s65 then s85. Just pick one already!
It really had abissmal performance on the top gear track. It weighs something like 2600 pounds and only was 1.5 seconds ahead of the m3. Sometimes weight is not everything as bmw has shown with their magic wand and ability to defy the laws of physics. Either way the car is ugly and sucks but I was interested in how they pumped out 470 hp out of the s65. I truly believe the s65 should have been released with 450hp stock, redline of 8600 stock and it would have been that much more able to beat up the C63 in horsepower wars as well as all the other things it does better |

470hp from S65? nothing to be surprised. If I'm not mistaken, several people here in the forums got even more than that. Pulleys, full akra, intake, tune...
