2010 vs. 2011/2012 M3

Hey guys, I have a serious question - after many futile attempts, I've pretty much given up trying to order a new M3 for the time being, the whole experience has been a nightmare honestly. That being said, there are a few 2010s in my area that have decent specs and priced fairly. My question is how much performance would I be losing going from an '11/12 e92 with comp pkg and CF roof to a '10 e92 (one of them had CF roof and one has a sunroof)?

If I can get a great deal on one of the '10s should I go for it? Or should hope an '11/12 comes along at some point with the specs I'm looking for?

I dont think performance is much of an issue. The comp pack has a few upgrades, but for me I knew I was gonna mod it so bought a 2010. Only thing I am looking at buying that can only be received on the newer models are the LCI tail lights and im gonna order those next week

Depends on what you plan to do with it after you get it. For me, I don't plan on doing aftermarket wheels so comp pack was a required option for me.

I uprgraded from a 2008 328i coupe and began my search for used E92 M3's and used Porsche (997) 911's. I could not find an M3 spec'd the way I wanted for the price I wanted. On the used 911's, I was willing to have one not spec'd the way I wanted but the price and interest rates were a tad high. Once the interest rates became so low on the 2011 M3's it became a no brainer to have one built the way I wanted and have maximum warranty and maintenance.
There are no performance differences that the manufacturer is publisizing. That being said some people on here swear there are differences. I hope the 2011's are faster than the rest but I can't say.
Another factor is that everything I've seen on the interest rates on the 2012 M3's sucks. And the CF vs. Moonroof issue is personal preferance and has been beaten to death.
Good luck.

How'd you see them when they haven't been released? Work for BMW?

The comp package doesn't really change the performance much at all. It has more to do with the way it drives not how fast it goes. The grip and acceleration are essentially identical.

The APR was increased 150%, from 1.9% to 4.9%. The residuals are down, the lease rates up.

The rates won't stay that bad but if you were in the market right this instant, they blow. They blow chunks.

When do you think they'll be back to 'normal'? Those rates are appalling!

... and that's the really nasty part. They will be back to the 1.9%-2.9% range in about two months, if not sooner. And BMWFS will give away the E93 M3 with cheap leases again, once the MY2011 M3 leftovers at dealer lots are gone.

I don't know what normal will be but I'm thinking around the 1st of the year they'll be some movement. This opinion is based on absolutely nothing. Like my others.

... I added the caviat of the MY2011 M3 leftovers to my comment above.

IMO, this slap in the face is caused by the excess inventory of MY2011 M3 still at dealers lots -the MY2011 M3 APR was reduced to 1.9% from 2.9% several months ago.

This was a long 18-months production run so it is not unusual that there are still quite a few M3 at dealers lots.

I've heard from a dealer that there is a new program starting Sept 5. He said that they were supposed to adjust the rates to increase sales... but being that these numbers came out yesterday, I'm thinking that that dealer is going to be in for a surprise when he see's what's coming his way.

These must be his "better" numbers because I can't imagine they'd use these for only 5 days. Yuck.

Thank you for the insight. I was going to order in November. Guess I'll be waiting till the New Year.

Yeah, I actually had a deal in place to order a 2011 and my dealer screwed it up entirely. Im not sure if Melbourne Red is rare or something, but I've only been able to fine a handful of MR 2011s throughout the country. That's what has me looking at the 2010s.
