Trade in 04 m3 and 11' 335is for new m3?

Hey everyone,
Looking at the possibility of consolidating cars. I really don't need 2 cars so considering trading in my 04 M and 2011 335is for an M3. Think its better to just wait for the new model in 2013-14?
thx

I think there are many factors to consider if you want to sell both of your cars to consider a current M3 or 2014 M3.
I'll help you with a few questions you can ask yourself:
1. Do you want a V8 or a rumored Triple Turbo 6?
2. Is gas mileage a concern?
3. Are you patient enough to wait another 3 years for the new M3?

Depreciation in the first year is the worst, so your 335is will take a big hit, if that matters.

Final year production should yield the most improved and reliable of the M3's for the E9X generation. However, once you get it, you will start seeing the new generation spypics. First year of the new generation will be the most exciting, but it will also have potentially the most bugs (and the least enticing finance/lease rates).

Dump them both, do the European Delivery on a new E92 and count yourself lucky to receive one of the last V8 M3 cars ever produced.

I wouldn't do it.

Why not sell the e46 M and use that money to lease a new M3 through European Delivery

The $ you get for the E46 should pay for about 3/4 of the lease payments. and in 3 years, you will be able to return the car for the New M

Don't sell the iS...too much of a depreciation hit in the first year

Thanks for the replies. Good points. I would be taking too big of a loss on the 335is. Should have gotten the M in the first place lol. LIve and learn. Just recently put the E46 on the market so hopefully there will be interest.

justrx, honestly would trade, if anything private sell. Honestly, test drive the e9x... I like the e46 m3 more than my e9x in regard to its feel and agility and overall experience.

Sell the E46, stick that money in the bank for 3 years and use it towards the downpayment on an F32 M3.

You guys are right. It would be the smartest decision to pull the trigger too soon considering I have a yr old 335. Just got that damm itch for the M! Thought after coming from the e46 m that I would be satisfied with the is model but you all know how that one goes! The 335is good overall but the M is just pure sex!

I would wait. You have to realize that this is an M3 forum where most people own an E9x M3. Of course were going to tell you "get the last V8 ever made!!!"

Make sure you consider the fact that the new M3, although 3 years away will be faster in a straight line and in the curves and definitely be a better car (on paper).

Plus the 335is isnt a common car and will take a hit due to depreciation.

I'm surprised at the recommendations to sell the E46, keep the 335is and lease an M3??

If you have a new M3 at home, you're NEVER going to get in the 335is.

Keep the 335is, sell the E46, save up for F32 M3. It makes the most financial, and common sense.

Do it now and get yourself a new or very lightly used 2011 ... the next M3 might be a turbo

my 2 cents

Don't be surprised if the next M3 has a base price of 65,000 and out the door for around 85-95k. In all honesty, I think the M3 is going to continue to notch up in price especially three years from now.

Enjoy what you have now, enjoy today, both of your current cars are badass. If you absolultely have to have the e9xM3, don't wait another minute, dump both cars and move on, but if you are happy, be happy. Right now, you have the best of both worlds...

Oh, and those of you who say save up for an F32, you aren't advising him to buy the first model year, are you? If not it's more like 4 years of waiting for his M3, sounds pretty crazy to me, who knows he might not even like it.

Don't do it. The 335is is 90% of the M3. Heck, it has a lot more torque and probably much better mileage. If you have the space for the two cars, I would just keep the E46 and have a modded street car or dedicated track car.

Have it sit in a bank where you lose about 4% on it.....

If he wants to sit on it, I'd say put it in a high dividend paying, 'safe' stock, or if he wants, at least into a CD... or something. Don't just let it sit there and lose value

Right....BUT he said he wants an E9X M3 now... he will take too much of a hit if he sold the iS.

The best thing IS to wait and then buy a M3..but if he wants to do it NOW, selling the iS is the worse thing he can do (financially) IMO.

Stick it in the bank was just a figure of speech, I wasn't going to attempt to tell him which mutual fund to buy

The point is to sell the car that will likely depreciate the most in the next 3 years (without taking a loss today) and that is the E46.
