Google Search option in Navigation Menu

I was looking to find an address in my Nav system the other day and i came across a "Google Search" option. This is something new since the dealership upgraded the software in my 2009 e93 a few weeks ago. I tried it out, but it failed. The car attempted to get to the internet via my cell phone (iPhone 4 with ATT) but didn't work.

Anyone else seen this? any tips on how to get it to work?

By the way, I do have tethering on my iPhone, but don't know if its necessary for this functionality. Moreover, if it is, how does one get the car to tether?

Thanks,
-Pesh

From what I understand from having read posts on this forum, what you have to do is bluetooth tether your iPhone/Whatever Phone to your BMW. So you would have to have a tethering plan.

That is part of the Assist Convenience Plan, $199 a year service.

Agreed.

Helpful if you travel and need to find places via Google. I question if it's worth it but for now I do use it about 5-6 times a month.

Like the others said, it's a premium BMW Assist option.

But the feature to "send" locations from Google maps on your computer to your car comes with the basic package. BMW Assist only needs to know what email address you're using, and you select (from inside Google maps) BMW as the car make to "send" the map location to. Destinations show up in your car via BMW Assist Messages. That is extremely handy!
