basically -> "NHTSA Investigating Complaints About Chinese-Made Ford Mustang Getrag Transmissions" Edit, I did some research and see the mustang transmission in question was the MT82, where we run the gs6-53bz so maybe this is a bogus assumption. Still rather interesting when the main issue reported for that transmission is a grinding/crunch into 2nd, 3rd gear and trouble selecting reverse. Seems a very common issue here with our getrag units. Maybe just a coincidence? Earlier post: I just came across this and I must admit I didn't spend any time to even see which getrag 6MT ford uses, but the article mentions the same exact problems I am having with my M3 Getrag 6MT which BMW declines to admit is a problem. Heavy grinding on 2nd and 3rd gears and unable to select reverse without a lot of force or rolling the car forward first. Seems a little odd. Any chance our getrag is included in this mess with defective chinese parts? -TX. Last edited by TX; 08-09-2011 at 06:13 AM. |

While I agree that our transmissions can be a bit bitchy at times...I'm not having the issues to the extent you're expiriencing them. Reverse is easy to engage, and in 16,000 miles, I've only experienced the 1-2 grind once and that was after driving on the highway for 2 hours. 2-3 isn't an issue either.
Maybe you should consider taking your car to the dealer if you're experiencing these issues on a regular basis.

My cousin had a 2011 mustang and his transmission was so much worst than any m3 story I heard. He would put the clutch to the floor put it in first give it some gas and the car would start moving.

Lol ur very right. I was barely awake when I wrote that. He also had issues getting it into gear and started skipping 2nd out of habit because the car would never go into it.
He traded it in for a loss of a grand and bought a Mazda speed 3. The dealer that bought the car is trying to sell it for more than he paid for it in the first place (brand new). Quote:

I believe these are the same Chinese-made MT-82 transmissions. However, what I have heard is BMW employs a revised / beefed up 1-2 syncro and various other enhancements (that are apparently not cheap). So there are likely very little by way of problems in common with the Mustang and M3.
