Hi all,
I thought I would share my impressions to help others looking buy an exhaust. I've been researching for months the best exhaust (for my needs) on my E90 M3. This is my DD, cart kids around at times, occasional track day, so not looking for anything obnoxious. I dont "mod" as I dont like to spend any extra $$$ on my car that I dont have to. Which is why I bought the M3 - a great car OEM. However I feel the exhaust is lacking in tone. What I like? I LOVE the "F1" tone of the M5 at low RPM. I do love the unique noises the stock exhaust can make at different RPM - its cool it always sounds different. I wanted something that is European Exotic as much as possible, without losing the character of a BMW M3. I'm not looking for an American rumble (not on this car). Based on everthing I read, the M Performance would be my first choice. However $3800 for a muffler is just too much no matter how great it sounds. I've only had a chance to hear 2 exhausts in person (B&B and Remus Sport). I liked them both (preferred the Remus), however I really wanted to hear an Eisenmann sport or race. I doubt I would buy the race (too loud) so watched 1,000,000 you tube videos and read every thread I could find ![]() I was about to buy the Remust Sport (good sound, good price) but then came across a used Eisenmann Sport for a great price. Every review is high on this for my needs. So I figured if it isnt for me, I can always re-sell it without much cost risk. So I bought it without hearing it in person. Anyway, impressions: Startup MUCH louder than stock! When I start up the car in a parking lot, I feel like people turn there heads to look. Not sure if this is good or bad My wife said I almost woke up the kids the other night. Its loud in the garage. Low RPM Its pretty loud. I'm trying to figure out how to get out of my garage and driveway without being annoying to the neighbors and we all have 1 acre+ lots. It does feel purposeful however. But I'm not used to hearing anything coming from the rear. Normally its 90% engine, 10% exhaust. Now at low RPM its 50 / 50. Getting used to it.Driving Hard Sounds great. I feel the tone of the exhaust matches well with the motor. Neither overpowers the other, but they work in harmony. I feel it could be like this from the factory. I wouldnt really characterize this as an "exotic" sounding exhaust. Not the muffler only. Its deep at low RPM, and matches the engine nicely on acceleration. Like stock but just louder. You do get a nice, light "burble" on decceleration which I LOVE. I've only driven about :30 minutes since install, so maybe my opinion will change. Overall I'm pleased, but a little let down. I think its because its much different than my expectations. I was expecting some massive howl upon my first acceleration but it was similar to stock but louder. But, that howling could get old quick (which is why I didnt want race). I think I'm starting to appreciate what the exhaust IS - which is - great deep tone at start / low RPM with nice sounds and louder than stock on acceleration. Am I happy? YES. I dont think I could ever go back to stock now ![]() Will post more impressions in a few weeks with more seat time. Taking a 9 hour road trip next week. Curious to hear anybody elses experience and thoughts on this setup. Last edited by MojorisinM3; 07-31-2011 at 10:26 PM. Reason: misspell |

Nice write up. I've got a sport that's waiting to be installed and what you describe is precisely what I'm looking forward to.

Your needs and desires seem exactly like what I'm looking for in an exhaust. Can you tell me what a good price is for the sport? I agree $3800 for the m performance is far too much.
Do you wish you bought the Remus? |

The loud startup and low end bass is the same "issue" I had with the Akra I owned. I became very paranoid and sold it. I would start the car in the garage and would be worried I would wake the kids. Eventually, that got old to me so I sold it . Hopefully, your experience is different. My neighbors comment that they can hear me leave with the OEM exhaust (not in bad way) so I can only imagine what they thought of the Akra
Anyway, not that you make decisions based solely on what others think but I couldn't get over my paranoia that I was obnoxiously loud in the early morning.I agree that the OEM Performance Exhaust would be the best bet. Aajami on here sold his Eisenmann to go with the Performance Exhaust becuase of the low RPM bassiness. I would get that too but the price is a little insane. Having said that, I always LOVE the sound from after market exhausts... especially the Eisenmann and Akra... on other peoples cars. As long as the noise isn't a problem for you, have fun with it... I'm a little jealous.

I picked up the Eisenmann Sport about three months ago & after one month was looking for a Eisenmann Race. Finally found a GT2. The Sport alone with stock mid pipe was too quiet for me. The engine overpowered the exhaust @ high RPM's. Don't have this issue with the GT2. That said, I'm gonna put the Sport on this weekend for an inspection & give it another try.

Is that with the windows up or down? And how about the difference from stock at cruising speeds between 70 and 100? Wonder if Eisenmanns have anti-resonance chambers or not. Thx.

Great write up! Been looking into exhausts right now. I want something in a little louder than stock but also do not what the neighbors on my ass! They always comment now that they can hear me. Going back and forth on Bastuck and Eisenmann Sport...I would be all over the M performance if the price tag was lower btw. That seems like the perfect combo for my needs

Did you end up with the M Performance? If so how would you compare them?

With the windows down you hear engine / exhaust 50 / 50. Having driven around with the windows up much in the limited time I did, I didnt notice anything obnoxious. A nice tight sounding exhaust ![]()

You'll love it. This is what the car should sound like stock, except maybe a little less "bass" at idle.

Yeah we'll see about the bass. I had an RPI axle-back installed for a total of about 2.5 hours - the bass/drone inside the cabin drove me insane.

Wow, good to know. I was considering the RPI and wondering if I should have gone that route. If there is even more bass at idle than the EisSp then I made the right choice.

The RPI sounded awesome when you really got on it (as most M3 exhausts do) but on startup and just cruising around town it was drone city.
