Future M3 Buyer in the House!

Hey Guys!

Always been a fan of BMW specially the M3 and I finally decided to Buy a 2008 M3 Coupe with low mileage (I’m stll looking for M3 less than 30K)... What better place to ask than the people that owns them, right?

Any common problems I should be aware off? or any recommendations when I start evaluating the car before buying it?

Jose

Nothing besides the obvious. I would definetly opt for a CPO car, make sure you check the service history with a dealer and check carfax. Although alot of people talk shit about carfax not being 100% accurate since accidents have to be reported. While that is true any accident that that is worth knowing about most likely will be reported and therefore show up on the history report

Defiantly go CPO or extended warranty... Try for a 09+ as they have the newer navigation system. Good Luck!

As mentioned before go with CPO. Dealers will increase the price of the vehicle by ~$2000-3000 to cover their CPO cost which is really only one big repair. Good luck!

If you purchase private make sure a reparable BMW dealer checks the car out so you may know what awaits you in way of future maintenance. It will naturally give you bargaining power on the final price.

If you purchase from a BMW dealership then get the extended warranty.

As others stated get the service history.

My first M3 was a e46 from 2002 I purchased from a large BMW dealership (in 2004). I had no issues with that car whatsoever.

Good luck and welcome to the forum ...

+1

definitely get a CPO, gives you a bit of piece of mind as far as warranty goes, and if you can get an 09, the new navigation is awesome, looks and reacts so much better. just take this in mind, extended maintenance and warranty will cost you in the area of 10k, this is something that Is really important in this kind of a car, so if you can spend 45k on 2008 you might as well want to spend 52k for a 2010. that way you wont need to pay for extended warranty and you will have maintenance for at least 3 years. this was my calculation and thats why i got a 2010.

good luck !

Guys, I found another M3 I like...how much you think is fair to offer the dealership?

Here are the Specs:

Color: AW w Carbon Hood/ Black Interior Leather
Year: 2009
Mileage: 34K
Warranty: Expires 10/2012 and CPO kicks in
Packages: Premium Pack, Technology Pack, Heated Seats, Dual Clutch, Navi, Parking Sensors, 19in Rims...

Dealer is asking $55K... How much will be fair???

Last but not least...

1. What is the difference between cold package and just the heated seats on a 2009 M3? For 2011 is just some automatic heat washers which in my opinion I wont be using an M3 in cold weather

2. What is the Technology Package for a 2009? Is that like the Convenience package on the 2011 M3?
Thanks Guys!

Wow you found the ultra rare AW/BLK combo! Jk bro.

1. Cold weather gives you headlight washers, heated seats, and a ski bag. I live in Denver Colorado and I didnt even bother getting the Cold Weather pkg. I just got the heated seats and love them! A definite must.

2. Tech Pkg is all the Nav and stuff like that. You also definitely want that option.

I think the 2008 @ $30K is the way you should go.

Agreed. CPO or not does not matter. A CPO is more or less a warranty with the mark-up already added to the car to cover anything that goes wrong. You can buy your own warranty.

I'd start by checking out some of the cars offered on this forum. You still should check Carfax and service history.

The car from Ebay was sold for 46K not 30K. He accepted an offer from another buyer :S

I was thinking of offering 49K to 50K...is that reasonable?
I will check who may be selling also...Thanks!

You may want to check out building a brand new 2012 too. I was looking for a CPO, 2009 or newer, and couldn't find the one I wanted. I didn't want all the options: no DCT, no NAV, no EDC, no packages, etc. A lot of the CPO cars seem to be all optioned out so the prices were more than I wanted to pay for a car that wasn't exactly what I wanted.

Instead of paying mid to high 50's for a 2009 / 2010 with stuff I didn't want, I just ordred a brand new 2012 built to my specs, cost was in the low 60's and new car financing should be 1.9% or 2.9% depending on terms.

I'm going Jet Black, 6MT, 19" wheels, cf interior trim, black leather, heated seats, and the moonroof and that just didn't exist in the CPO system, and I searched the entire US for over a month. This will be my third M3, I've owned an E36 and currently own a AA supercharged E46 M3 coupe. I purchased both of those CPO and never thought I would buy brand new but this time around it just made sense for me.
