Oregon Raceway Park CCW Videos

A little over a week ago, a few M3post members went down to Oregon Raceway Park for 2 days of driving fun. The track is amazing. Itís in the middle of nowhere and has a lot technical corners: blind, off camber, etc. It is not a fast track but has tons of elevation changes with nice flowing sections.

For this event, the Oregon PCA decided to run on the track Counter Clock Wise instead of the usual CW. This was tons of fun.

KM3 and I spent a bit of time driving together as our driving skill levels are fairly close. Hereafter are a couple of videos for your enjoyment.

A couple of comment
s:
- I am VERY impressed with the Stoptech BBK. I have a 4 piston setup all around and I am running their Street Performance pads. ORP is very hard on the brakes and the CCW setup is particularly so as most of the heavy braking is going downhill. The brakes were consistent and fade-free for the 30 mins sessions we ran. The only difference I could tell between the beginning and the end of the sessions was slightly longer pedal travel.
Last time I went to ORP, I was running Carbotech XP10 pads on the stock calipers and experienced brake fade towards the end of the sessions.
REALLY, REALLY impressed with the Stoptech setup
- It was my second track day running Toyo R888 tires. I bought these after I corded my Nitto NT-01s and they were once again out of stock. I was a bit worried as I had heard mixed reviews of the R888. So far, I am very happy with them. The grip level seems completely on par with the NT-01s and the wear appears even. Maybe more so than the NT-01s. They are a bit pricier though.

Here are the videos:

Open lap session on Sunday. Just having a good time!

Amazing weekend and amazing track! Was great driving with you, buddy!

I completely agree with you on the Stoptech setup. This track is brutal on brakes in the CW configuration and even more so in the CCW config. The brakes held up to the abuse without issue and were confidence inspiring all weekend, even with extended sessions and minimal cool down. Simply awesome.

If the naysayers were right, we'd have been in the pits servicing our brakes, or worse, in the dirt with smoke rising out of our wheel wells. Couldn't be further from reality...

Thanks for posting! Looks like a fun roller coaster of a track with all the elevation changes. Glad your StopTech setup is working out. I've been using the 380mm/355mm StopTech kit and have been happy as well.

wow that track looks smooth and fun...had to google where it was located...prob would take 1.5-2 hrs for me to get there...I just ran PIR on Monday and experienced brake fade and I was taking it easy...anyone that goes to track regularly I am sure would benefit from a BBK and decent tires.

Let us know the next time there is a track day out there.

Thanks. If you can make it to Pacific Raceways, I and a few of us will be there on the 11th, 12th and 24th of August!

Nice videos, but they look computer generated, not real. Are you attempting to tell us something, or if I am off base, apologies in advance.

Here's a short clip of me following Frenchboy. After watching this a few times, I have to say, the Akra definitely gives the M3 some extra oomph coming out of the corners!

This video really provides an awesome point of view. It's amazing how the M3 is so planted and balanced on such a challenging course.

It's also at the hands of a very competent driver. Good job buddy ;-)

Hopefully you're signed up for the CCA event next Friday at Pacific Raceways. We'll be there!

Nicolas ... that looks like a fun track. Glad the StopTech's are holding up well for you. Mine are as well.

Are you still on your first set of pads? I bought a spare set of pads but haven't needed them yet (Just have two track days and street driving on them). The thing I am impressed with is how great they are on the track and the street. Not having to change pads before track days is really nice.

Funny you mention that. I just swapped out the front pads today. It is so freaking easy, it's amazing. I had done 6 track days on them and there was a bit over 1/3 pads left. However, I have 3 track days coming up back to back, I figured I would do it now. The set of pads is only $70 (ST40!). Why not ;-)

The StopTech kit keeps impressing me. I completely agree with you how the Street Performance pads are an amazing dual purpose track/street proposition. They are cheap and super easy to replace, and last a decent amount of time. I just love it. So glad I went with the ST40 kit. It's been a dream so far.

That looks like a really fun track. Thanks for posting.

I complete agree about the Stop Tech kit. The stock pads hold up great to the abuse on the track, and are quiet and have good cold bite on the street. They're cheap, and the removable bridge on the calipers makes changing pads really easy. I highly recommend this kit to any track enthusiast.

OK, so I finally got around to editing my videos from the Audi Club event at ORP. We run it clockwise, and this was my first time there and first time at the track with the M3. So lots of caution, as I learned the car. Only modifications were a set of Hankook S3 tires and XP10/XP8 brake pad combination.

Here is my first clean lap... (took me a while to learn the track)

I am doing it in about 2:20.

And 2nd one - this one 2:15 or so.
