cold start

interested in what is the advantage or disadvantage of keeping or removing the cold start procedure with a tune? i dont have primary cats so dont need them heated up but does the cold start serve to warm the car up quicker. also it sounds kind of cool. just curious if i should have evolve remove this or leave as is. any thoughts?

My understanding is that it is to heat the cats up faster to help decrease emissions during initial driving.

Exactly as singletrack says and as we talked about on the phone Chris, primarily there to heat up the cats for emissions reasons. If you like a loud startup leave it in, if you'd prefer a quiter exit from home, we can remove it

hmm..wonder how much it would be to just get the cold start up deleted....I'm not interested in an ecu tune, just the cold start delete...

wonder how much longer it would take the cats to heat up if/when "cold start" is "deleted"..

If you're gonna start messing with your ECU you might as well tune for power since your warranty is already at risk

I got the cold start removed when I got my ESS tune. Doesnt do a thing but starts smoother and sounds better when cold... I like not having it...

its just for emission control warming up the cats helps them work properly more quickly so less hydrocarbons relseased. plus it sounds cool.

Its also to get your fluids moving (changing viscosity as it warms up)
and other things into operating motion

Like all metals, it expands and contracts depending on temperature

I had Paul and Evolve remove the cold start on my tune over the past weekend, and the difference is remarkable. Not only is it much quieter on startup, it's smoother idling and the DCT even seems to shift more appropriately. Before the tune, DCT cold shifting was rough, and it almost seemed like it couldn't quite decide upon the correct gear. Now with the cold start delete, both shifting and idle are smooth and refined, just as it should be on this fabulous car.

I wish the Dinan tune had the delete. I'm scared to start my car before 8am, my neighbors can hardly take it!

I liked that extra bit of growl when I started my car, but don't miss it now that it's gone... and I'm sure my neighbors don't either haha.
