I was aware of the in model year changes and the significance of the last few VIN digits , but as far as I know, BMW still uses the twelve months to pinpoint changes, not the decimal point system.

I'm convinced reasons vary by owner, but I'm inclined to agree with your thinking about MY.

Become addicted to BMW and you'll appreciate the mid year designations. If you buy a 2003 M3, you'll probably want to know if you're getting a 2003.5, since that designates a car that came out mid year and had LED taillights.

If you're looking at an E92, you might want to know that they rearranged the option packages on the car in mid 2011. You also might want to know that the BMW app option and the two tone interiors came out mid year (the app only starting in March). Or maybe you couldn't care less and just want a 2011, which is the first year the competition package was available. It's easier to just designate a car with a sub-year classification than trying to explain this every time.

I am way beyond addicted to BMW. Certainly the mid-year designation is useful. It was the three-quarter (a.k.a. .75) designation that is not of BMW's creation that I was making reference.

BTW, a 2012.8 or 2012.09 does interest me.

Cheers!

Better get it wrapped up. Don't want any scratches. Premiere can help you with that.
