There's a lot of noise on UK forums about the price being too much, which I understand. Bear in mind we are paying the equivalent of around $100,000 for a lightly specced M3.
There are some differences in average pay between UK and US jobs, but at the professional level it's not that much. You just have a more consumer oriented economy, a very powerful and attractive one for most brands and therefore you do get products on the whole much more cheaply than we do. Give California their own clean version with less HP. The rest of us 49 staters will be happy with the Euro motor and HP.
If I was worried about emissions, I'd chose a different car. |

I asked this question to the former M-brand manager at BMW NA (also the current X5 brand manager) tonight at a BMW CCA event at DeSimone BMW here in NJ tonight. He said the US models have usually have slightly less horsepower than the European counterparts due to they way they are tested. However, he did not know of any delays in production of US models due to California emissions.
