What would it take...
for you to consider the next gen m3 as a worthy successor to the e9x m3? I know the f3x m3 is still a few years down the road, but talks of it going turbo, have led many to proclaim that they will to hold on to their NA m3s forever or switch brands. Although I have only had my e90 m3 for a little over a month, I'm convinced that the current gen m3 is a mechanical masterpiece-- the car just excels in every imaginable way: aggressive looks, a high revving V8 (oh, don't get me started on the sound it emits, even my wife jokingly says it renders the sound system redundant,
) and amazing handling. So, what would it take for you to consider the next gen m3 as the heir to the e9x m3 throne? Would being lighter, perhaps a csl version, do the trick? Linear power delivery and throttle response like the NA V8? Or is the e9x m3 as good as it gets?

For me to even consider it, it would have to be totally reliable for 2 model years and at least no heavier than this outgoing model. I doubt even then I would give up this current model.

im hoping to not have to make that decision as i want to get into a slightly used one and also keep my e90. i would like it if the new version had more raw controls. the brakes, clutch pedal, shifter and particularly the low speed steering are too soft for my liking.

Interior quality must improve. More feedback through the steering wheel(None of that electric steering BS) and the weight must go down.

I just recently dumped my 335i because the turbochargers were toast at 75k miles. So, it's going to take a lot for them to restore my faith in their ability to design a turbocharged motor that lasts. We shall see. If there is some car available in a few years with an N/A V8, DCT (or even a fast auto), and other things I want in a car, I am probably more inclined to go that route instead. I'll definitely test drive the F3x M3/M4 either way though.
