Rocky Mountain Run

NEW Official date is JUNE 4th, the first Saturday of the month. Since Mt. Evans will be closed up until Memorial Day, I decided to push the date back into June.

Date: JUNE 4th
Rain Date: N/A
Start time: TBD
Distance: +430mi

Event Page Added: https://www.facebook.com/events/177746729257655/
Please add yourself to the event if you plan on coming!

Participant list (unconfirmed):
1. Evil M (me)
2. ronanz
3. slavik
4. Viorage
5. Greg Evans
6. Blakteky
7. Banman
8. Elwolfe
9. Dnvrdrvr
10. Milhaus
11. Cuturass
12. schnelllistm3
13. Drift Unit

*Pending route modifications*
Total distance will be over 430 miles. Decided to start up North in Ft. Collins and go South, down to Colorado City. Definitely an all day event.
I am working on, and will have a list of each road and a description and checkpoints along the way. This route is E-85 friendly for those of you who use it.
Rest/Checkpoints will be established along the route for people who want to meet and drive, or not wanting to drive the full length. Actual stop points still need to be determined.

Leave some feedback! I'd like to get some input from everyone so I can decide what days and time will be official.
What do you think? Too long/far? Would it be more ideal to travel North to South, or vice versa? Who would be down for this?

MAP OVERVIEW
*With descriptions under image*

CO-165
Description: Good twisty uphill climb with technical high speed corners.
Traffic: Low
Surface Quality: Average-Good
Distance: 32.9 mi

CO-96/CO-69
Description: Fun, high speed corners exiting the mountains, transforms into wide open and very scenic.
Traffic: Very Low-Moderate
Surface Quality: Fair-Average
Distance: 46.5 mi

US-50
Description: 2-lane highway mountain passage with fast sweeping turns.
Traffic: Moderate
Surface Quality: Good
Distance: 16.5 mi

CO-9/ Teller 1
Description: One of my favorites. Very technical but fast with lots of tight areas and elevation change. This road has it all.
Traffic: Low-Moderate
Surface Quality: Average-Good
Distance: 40.2 mi

CO-67
Description: Nice fun road to drive, depending on traffic. Cripple Creek attracts a lot of travelers so you often get stuck behind some old person driving 20mph with a line of cars behind them.
Traffic: Moderate-High
Surface Quality: Good
Distance: 18.4 mi

CO67/CR126 (Deckers)
This long stretch of road is arguably some of the best the east side of the Rockies has to offer.
Traffic: Moderate
Surface Quality: Fair/Good
Distance: 47.6 mi

ROUTE BREAKDOWN

Poudre Canyon Rd (CO14) - Stove Prairie Rd (CO27)
Total Distance: 41 mi
Traffic: Low - Moderate
Surface Quality: Fair/Good

US 34 - Devil's Gulch (CR43) to Estes Park *Fuel/Rest point in Estes Park*
Total Distance: 25.4 mi
Traffic: Low - Moderate
Surface Quality: Fair/Good

*There will be a stop in either Granby or Idaho Springs depending on which route we take.

CO103 (Squaw Pass)/ CO5 (Mt. Evans)
Traffic: Unknown
Surface Quality: Newly paved asphalt on majority of CO103; Mt. Evans undetermined.
Total Distance: 59.5 mi

From here we will continue down 74-73 through Evergreen to 285. Next stop will be the Kum & Go on 285

CR126 - CO67 (Deckers)
Total Distance: 57.5 mi
Traffic: Moderate
Surface Quality: Fair/Good

CO-67 to Cripple Creek
Total Distance: 19 mi
Traffic: Moderate-High
Surface Quality: Good

More to come...

Looking at the length, I would start puking allover the place when sitting in the passenger seat of my car, after the first mile's ...some people can't do the twisties for such a long track.

Lol. I forgot to add that there will be rest/checkpoints throughout the drive, so people can meet and drive at which ever point suits them.

Good to know!

I'd be down for this but 430 miles of curves is too much for me for one day. Maybe doable over a two day course with a stopover somewhere overnight is more feasible.

There will be checkpoints along the way you could meet at so you don't have to do the whole thing. For example you could meet us in Evergreen and cruise it out from there.

We used to do monthly runs similar to this in the summer months and into the fall weather permitting. Not as long, but an easy 4-6 hour drive each time and with several stops along the way it was always a good time. It's allowed me to see areas of the state I wouldn't normally see, even if it's only at a high rate of speed. I can't commit that weekend yet, but this type of thing is something I would like to get back into when the weather and roads clear up.

Well dates aren't definite yet, just working on getting the word around. Once I get a solid group then we can start working with a date. But It's most likely going to be near or after Memorial Day.

Should I add you all to the list, then we can pick a date?

OK It's all updated. Let's start throwing out suggestions for dates.
Before Memorial day weekend? After? Some time early June? To me it doesn't matter, so let's hear what your thoughts are. I would have originally liked to keep it during the holiday to kind of start a tradition, but there are usually too many other conflicting events.
