I bought a 997s pdk and still have my m3.

I bought a 997s pdk with sport chrono package about a month ago. In retrospect I feel that I jumped the gun and didn't give my purchase enough thought. The plan was to get rid of the m3 shortly after I purchased the Porsche but I just can't bring myself to do it. Comfort and practicality aside, the m3 feels a lot faster than the Porsche. The engine feels way more responsive and the car feels like it's moving through it's gears and speed at a much greater pace than the Pcar. The more I drive both cars back to back the more I want to keep the m. Now I'm stuck and I have no idea what to do. I love the looks, size, steering feel, and prestige of the Porsche but I really feel like the m3 is the better performer. Better engine and better double clutch in the m3. I have no idea what I'm going to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the 997 S PDK is faster in every objective test despite "feeling" slower. Feeling slow does not mean going slow. That 911 hauls some ass around road courses

Should have gotten the GT3 or GT3 RS.

I would not get any other Porsche to replace a M3.

Hopefully one day I can upgrade to one.

Try driving them back to back and you'll know exactly what I mean.

I know the feeling. I went from a e92 M3 to a 996 TT and ended up trading back to a e90 M3. The Pcars are amazing (and I am jealous of yours) but there is just something about the solid feel of the BMW that is unmatched. The 911 looks better in my opinion but I also hated the attention - that's personal preference though as is the Pcar vs. BMW driving experience (steering feel, build quality, etc.).

The bottom line is that you have taken a depreciation hit on the 997 - it doesn't matter if you sell it now or later. I wish it wasn't the case for you but it's a sunk cost and should not drive your go forward decision. Follow your gut or you'll probably end up regretting your decision (whichever way you go).

I test drove a 2011 gt3 the other day. It's quite an amazing car but the clutch needs like 20 pounds of pressure and in la I would probably have to depress the clutch about 300 times a day. I go to the beach a lot and dont want a left leg that's twice as big as my right. Lol.

Your right, i feel if I get rid of the m3 I'll regret it big time. I think I got a decent deal on the Porsche, it's certified untill 2015 so maybe I'll see If I can get some decent coin for it.

To all you e9x owners. Don't take your cars for granted. Never think there's something better out there cause there's not and I've driven them all. This current generation m3 is a keeper. Keep it, pet it, drive it for a long time and never let it go.

Are you in a spot where you'll be hurting financially if you keep both? If that's the case then sell the M3 and just wait for the new ones to come out and by then you could sell your Porsche for it. Or sell the M3 now and two years down the road buy a used E9x M3. Doesn't make too much financial sense but it seems like you rushed things a bit. But Porsche C2S is fantastic so I wouldn't think you'll be really downgrading. It's fun to mix cars up a bit but never having owned an M3 I can't say if letting go will be easy.

Agree on the above, I would love a GT3 in white.

BUT

I love my M3, took it out onto a new freeway yesterday and gunned it up to around 95mph. I have a new appreciation for this car.

You can't really compare any Porsche to any BMW. Porsche bests BMW in almost every test. The M3 might win in practicality, but that's about it. I also disagree that the MDCT is better then the PDK. When I test drove the Cayman S and Carrera 4S, the PDK felt much more responsive and much quicker.

Those cars are completely different from a M3.

Yes it does. The new 991 is being officially unveiled soon, so values could stay about the same or plummet very very fast. enthusiasts are pissed about the changes, so maybe there is a chance that it will stabilize. from what I have been reading, the 911 will feel more mid engined, which is a huge plus in everyone's book (except for 911 enthusiasts apparently ). KKM3, it is time to make an adult decision (sorry). porsche has yet to release a 911 that people didn't like. Even the 996, which apparently is the crappiest 911 released, still was an improvement over the 993...well, in some ways.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I have both cars. I dont like the feel of the PDK in the 997S; it drives too much like an automatic. I feel more connected to the car with a 6 speed like my 997S. I had a 2011 Audi S4 just sold it after 90 days because the DCT felt similar to the PDK. Porsche’s are refined and great performance cars that are much better suited for track use than the BMW. When it comes to BMW M it’s hard to beat. I feel BMW dose a better job creating a sports car that spends most of its life as a daily driver. If you want a track car the P car is hard to beat. But if it’s your DD the BMW is my choice. I have owned 4 Porsches since 2000 and over 6 BMW M car's in the same time frame. I understand you dilemma. My foolish jump into the Audi cost me money, but in the end I decided to find a way to make it all work out.
Good luck.
