Your friends tell you not to drive the M on a 2 hour trip? Seriously? Dude it's a car it's meant to be driven I just took mine to Lake Tahoe over the weekend. If it's bad for the M to be taken on a road trip than there are some serious issues with our cars...

I hope you're joking. If not, then the short answer to your question is go on your trip no worries. But a 2 hour trip doesn't really qualify as a "road trip" cause in my book, that's a daily commute.

I live in LA. It takes me 2hours to see my parents and they live 40 miles away. You will be fine.

Two hours is a commute in Chicago. Suck it up.

I drive that almost every weekend. A road trip in my opinion is nothing short of a 8 hours ride one way.

two hours - lol!! .. try twelve hours one way - Seattle to San Francisco and back! the M3 eats up the miles.. its such an incredible car. Needs no prep apart from common sense (check oil, check tire pressure, carry spare tire)

Two hours is not a road trip dude...

You could search and learn how to check oil level properly, and top it off, but you don't strike me as the DIY type, so just carry an extra liter and pour it when the computer tells you to (like suggested above).

And yes, I agree a road trip is a minimum of 300 miles each way IMO. Maybe that's why you called it a 'toad trip'?Good luck man.

The M3 gets warmed up after 2 hours. I once drove from Myrtle Beach, SC to Montréal, Canada in a day (18 hours straight). You'll have no problem at all.

A true road trip would be from Toronto to London, England.

DIY Do It Yourself

Take the car to London. When I was in School at Western I did that drive almost every other week. It's boring as S***. The M will make it somewhat entertaining. The 401 has nothing to see between Toronto and London so take a pretty girl to look at along the way.

DIY = do it yourself

Read your owners manual. It will tell you how to check the oil level. There are some differences depending on if you have i-drive or not. Use the BMW recommended oil for M-engines. Buy a litre at the dealer and carry it in the car.

I can't belive your friends told you a 2 hour drive is too much. What did you buy the car for? If you aren't going to drive it to work and can't drive it on a 2 hour road trip what is the point in owning it?

i drive 45 minutes one way to work... thats without any traffic... LA traffic is insane that 45 minutes can turn into 2hours after 5pm...

also drove my M3 LA to San Francisco almost 7 hours drive without any problem... also drove the car to vegas without any problem...

so your 2 hours? come on thats only LA traffic drive.

Sell the car to someone who's willing to drive it. Good grief! I picked mine up May 19th and did my 1200 mile service with 1450 miles on it 1 1/2 weeks later. I've slowed down since with two round trips to Myrtle Beach, one to White Sulphur Springs, WV, one to Lynchburg, VA and two to Boone, NC. each one at least 3 hours away one way.

This is a good question, in Germany you are only allowed to drive one hour at a time.

If it were me I would drive that in a heartbeat! Sounds like your freinds have an extra set of M3 keys and they want you out of town in the 4Runner so they can enjoy the M. Though I can appreciate trying to keep miles or kilometers off the car and preserve it as much as possible, if the weather is expected to be nice, go for it. It will be much more fun than the 4Runner!

On a side note, I find it funny how people say drive, drive drive but wouldn't want to buy a used M3 with many miles on it.

I'm driving from NJ to Myrtle Beach, SC next month for a golf weekend with my buddies. I opted to drive (11hrs split across two days) over flying.
