Yes, it's the control arm.
Yes, you need to have it towed to the dealer.
How the F should we know if it's covered by warranty? It doesn't look like something that "just falls off".

oh the power of the button

i remember once i made a few threads on e90 post asking like 4 different things all speculating what 'could' happen if events a and b and c and d all happened independently of one another

then some guy found my threads and put them all together ahaha

but to OP, youre not that f*cked. probably 1k in damages all around from the tire to control arm to wheel

i already replaced the tire, so it's just the control arm that needs to get fixed.

I'm on mobile so I can't see where you're from but many cities will cover pothole related damage under most circumstances. Check with your city/county.

Dealer- "Oh, ok, that will be $0.00 then. It's under warranty"

My thought is that they will inspect the car and look at the control arm / front suspension in detail. If the control arm is bent and/or other components show injury secondary to trauma they will pick it up and it will likely not be covered.

You must have been going at a good rate of speed when you hit the curb to cause that damage. Maybe taking a turn too fast and the car broke loose and slid into the curb?

Anyway, I would tell the SA that you were going around a curve and you felt something wrong with the steering/tracking and then the car broke loose and skid into the curb. At least then there is some room to question that some part was defective and initiated the accident.

Even the most stupid tech would know that damage wasn't due to a defective part. Yes, you can try, but would look like a douche. Anyway, don't forget a full alignment.

You could make a claim, but if it's slightly more than your deductible, you'd probably be better off paying out of pocket due to the fact the claim would go against your collision. I made a claim several years ago when I was hit parked, Progressive told me it wouldn't go against my record, and make a claim for $800 ($500 deductible). Next cycle my premium iincreased by $500 for that stupid claim. Left them out of principle, but I ended up paying more than before. I'd ask your insurance if you wouldn't get a premium increase, and get it in WRITING. But start with an estimate from a BMW dealership, then decide on a claim; it might have more damage than you think. Good luck.

More than just the control arm is likely damaged, sorry to say. I think this is going to probably be an insurance claim if we start talking about shocks, subframes, bushings, alignment, new wheel, etc. I'm surprised the wheel didn't bend or crack with an impact that would do that to an aluminum control arm (forged?).

Well, no matter what, it won't be cheap to fix...I feel for you. If it were a Mustang it would only cost $100 to fix, but since it is a M3, it will be about $4,000
