Intake question and exhaust question

Does an intake really do much for the M3 or am I good to just drop an upgraded filter in it? If an intake does make a bit of a difference anybody locally selling one? Also is anybody running stock mufflers but with upgraded piping in sections one and two? If so do you like it or do most perfer a full exhaust? I'm a newb to the M3 so I'm just trying to find my way with a little guidance from you guys, thanks!!

K3Silk I ordered a fab speed x pipe resonated and and K&n drop in filter. After reading through the forums most people say stay stock or put a drop in filter. Anything else is a waste. Also they say the pulley kits are a waste of money as well. If you plan on staying stock for a big with your exhaust just get an xpipe. Eventually if you go full exhaust thats when you will need to get connecting pipes ect....

i doubt an intake by itself will do anything. You'll need a tune to maximize the potential from each mod.

Yes, just a drop-in airfilter is the best, and cheapest, option. Factory airbox flows extremely well.

I disagree with your statement about adding an under-drive pulley. This is the cheapest mod you can add to this car and get measurable gains. I have a pulley on my car and I'm glad I added it.

I hope you have better luck with your fabspeed x-pipe than I did with mine. Send me a PM if you want details. Do you know if they solved the CEL problem?

I've heard mixed reviews on purchasing a pulley... but dunno, if you got some spare money, why not pick up an MS one.

Def. get a pulley, you can pick them up for cheap now and you can def feel a difference in power esp low end.

don't fool around with little mods, the only little mod that will make the biggest difference is tires, and maybe suspension.

Do yourself a favor and just focus on a supercharger.

A supercharger is not for everyone. Personally I prefer to keep my cars NA and if done properly you can get gains you can feel without completely changing the character of the car.

The orig question wasn't about suspension mods - stock suspension and tires are more than adequate on the street. If you track your car then I agree you should consider changing your suspension, tires as well as brakes (minimum pads and fluid).

BTW, my comment about the CEL is for Fabspeed's HFC, not xpipe.

Spacers (15/12) are a must. H&R Springs give the car a perfect drop IMHO.

H&R Springs, I have the EDC option. 0 rubbing. People go 15 all around and don't rub either.

With regards to the drop in filter-BMC is the best. Forget about the K&N. Thankfully the S65 engine does not have a MAF sensor so that's one less thing to worry about.

15/12 spacers are definitely a must. No need to roll the fenders provided your car is stock height. The water pump and power steering pulleys are a good investment considering they minimize the stress on the pumps thereby freeing up HP.

Note: We all get hit with the mod bug-all that is fine-but tampering with the stock hp output is not worth your time and money and more often causes more issues. Ex: coilovers and aftermarket cat less headers.

Thanks for the advice. Right now I have a drop in filter and fabspeed xpipe coming in. I will definitely invest in spacers as well. Looking at pulley and possibly tune. I know everybody says Dinan sucks but it still retains the warranty per my SA and tech so I'm looking at that.

Be careful when selecting spacers because what works on an e90 may not work on an e92 - more fender clearance on e90. At stock ride height there's a good chance what works on an e90 will work on an e92.

Checkmate - not sure what you are suggesting with your example? Coilovers and no-cat setups are common mods or mods you've done? I do agree mod'ing can turn into a disease...that's what a dedicated track car is for!

I know on the e92 there's no fender to roll - does the e90 m3 actually have a fender that can be rolled?
