M Festival - M Night: First BMW M3 CRT Live Pics
BIMMERPOST NEWS M Festival - M Night: BMW M3 CRT Revealed BMW M Festival has officially kicked off tonight with M Night, where we participated in the first public viewing of the 2012 BMW M5 and the just revealed BMW M3 CRT [Official Info Thread]. The event took place in BMW's building at the Nurburgring track. The building itself had stadium seating on the side of the building facing the track to observe cars and races running on the famed 'ring'. The event took place on the ground level in the event hall. Brian Watts, BMW M GmbH's General Manager Sales and Marketing, provided the english language details to each of the two cars. The M3 CRT was introduced first. The most impressive thing about the M3 CRT to us (besides its obvious unique styling) was its sound. The 4.4L engine with increased displacement together with the sports exhaust system with its lightweight titanium muffler sounded amazing in the hall. To get an idea of what the M3 CRT sounds like, see the video posted by BMW. The M3 CRT's frozen polar silver metallic paint was a beautiful matte color and appeared more vibrant than frozen silver, at least to our eyes under the conditions. It had a tuner-like appearance with its melbourne red accents, black wheels, and unique red/carbon fiber front and trunk spoilers. The CRT will certainly be at least as eye catching in person on the road as it was at the show. And one thing's for sure, the car's styling is not for the shy. The red accents stand out in person more than in the press photos. Besides the exterior, the interior was clearly very unique. The bucket seats (one of the main lightweight components of the car) made from cellular carbon honeycomb were to die for - both in look and feel. Not only were they gorgeous due to their carbon fiber backs, dual-color leather, and contrast stitching, but they were extremely comfortable and supportive to sit in. Of note is that the carbon fiber weave on the seat backs, front spoiler, and rear trunk spoiler are an exclusive weave design. The Alcantara-covered M steering wheel was super meaty and the interior trim in aluminium grain structure provided a great industrial look to the interior. After the presentations, we had a chance to get up close to the M3 CRT. We were able to feel the hood which is also made from cellular carbon honeycomb, has the strength of conventional steel hood, but at 1/4 of its weight. It's also claimed to be a 50% weight saving over M3 aluminum hood. And we believe it - we were able to lift the hood very easily with just a finger. Without further ado.... |

I like everything about it except the rear spoiler.

I don't like the red hood scoops and the red accent on the spoiler, side gills, front spoiler, and hood vents. Not a fan of the silver carbon leather trim. I do like the increase in HP and torque and the frozen color and the alcantra steering wheel.

Looks like it was thrown together last minute from the parts bin. A last ditch effort to glorify the E90 before it's retired.

I agree. It makes no sense to have a Race Sedan. If performance is what they are striving for then a Sedan is a step in the wrong direction.

Not crazy about the red accenting on the outside. I definitely like the interior upgrades and I am on the fence about the front spoiler. I am sure the performance upgrades are worthwhile as well.

These editions are becoming really cheesy and impossible to keep track of. The red hood and side vents are embarrassing to say the least. The seats look good, but the two tone leather belongs in a mustang. Oh and that plaque with ///M3 CRT on it looks extremely cheap and they couldn't have chosen an uglier font. They could have done better than 100lbs weight saving. Well, The 4.4L engine is a plus..
