CNBC Correspondent Carl Quintanilla takes viewers inside BMW’s secretive Tech Center, where teams of engineers obsess over the technical and mechanical details that the company says justify its cars’ high prices. Acoustic specialists consider every sound in the car, from the exhaust note to the window motors; ergonomic engineers labor over the stunningly complex mechanical labyrinth that is a modern seat; and crash specialists deliberately wreck a parade of high-dollar vehicles to improve safety.

BMW is a company enjoying success, but also facing significant challenges. Growing environmental and political pressures are making it increasingly tough to market high performance cars, but BMW is staking its future on its ability to build vehicles that are both sustainable and fun. This is going to be great for the resident koolaid BMW consumers. Expect to see-clean factories and clinical personalities.

We know that turbo charged engines and more production volume is the future for BMW thereby diluting the brand a few notches down. Driving obsession will cease to be the order of the day at BMW.

I think Americans have learned their lessons-especially Ford. That's who we need to watch.

Just finished watching the documentary - so-so. Not bad but definitely not breathtaking. Didnt really live up to the title. Anyway, in the opeming minutes, the guy was driving Z4: either he was nervous or the wheels are badly unbalanced but that was a lot of steering wheel movement, especially for an autobahn. I drove Z4 and it wasnt that nervous as it looked here...

I just got through watching the program as well. I agree that it was so-so. Most notably, for me, was that Carl Quintanilla acted like an idiot. First of all, I'm pretty sure he wasn't wearing his seat belt while driving down the Autobahn. Secondly, some of his questions were borderline offensive to the people he was interviewing. Just my $0.02.

One of the partners in my firm drives that way - wheel is constantly moving unnecessarily. Drives me crazy!

I thought the show was pretty bad. It was a news show, and I think the big problem was the subjects they decided to cover wasn't the most interesting to me. I think the moderator was asking some really dumb questions to the subjects. Things I wish they covered/talked more about:

- They totally skipped out on the 80's and how BMW became the 'ultimate driving' machine and the car of the yuppies

- With that didn't go into at all the 3 -series which is the standard of its class for over 2 decades and made BMW what it is today

- Of course didn't once talk about the M division

- Besides the 'i' series, didn't talk about the future of BMW with turbo-charging and smaller engine displacements and hybrid technology (ie the whole Efficiency Driving stuff)

- While they had a commerical about BMW in SC, didn't cover at all about that plant and how it makes every X vehicle for BMW.

Really not worth watching, if you miss it.
