1 Word: Tires... this is why all, for everyone who spends all their money on mods... and still runs around on street tires... are wasting your money if you plan to actually 'track' the car... Only change from 2010 to 2012 ZR1.... an option for 'Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Race tires'... Kudos to GM for stepping up, and knowing how to play the game!

ZR1 FTW (again)

My buddy runs his over there. I rode shotgun with him for a Track Daze event in his ZR1 back in the fall and it was simply amazing. Oddly enough, the most impressive thing about that car is the brakes. Like none other I have ever experienced.

Nice run. But I still prefer Viper ACR over the ZR1.

What controversy was that? The GTR ran a 7:24 in the wet.

Sounds like an excuse. There are dry days in Germany's Eifel Mountains (not many). And the Ring is open all year long.

Do you need a flowchart or something?

The last time GM brought a Corvette ZR-1 to the Nurburgring (6/2008), the results were 7:26.4

Nissan then ran a 7:26.7 (4/2009) and failed to beat the ZR-1's time (when it was their definite goal to do so).

The controversy, or shall I say rivalry began afterwards when ricer fans, video game geeks and nice folks like you couldn't accept it that their beloved GT-R couldn't beat a GM. (kind of like what your almost doing now )

It is not the camera angle, he is very harsh which seems to be somewhat necessary around the ring. But what is not necessary is his stabbing at the throttle, spinning the tires is no big deal but when he has to come all the way out of the throttle because he was too aggressive hurts the time severely.

IDK, the driver looked pretty smooth to me, but what do I know.
What would you guess his time could be if he was less severe?

Your hostility is palable. "Ricers" "video game geeks"?
My questions pertained to your silly "later Nissan" comment and "controvery" remark.
Frankly, I would expect a ZR1 to beat a GTR and have always been astonished how close the times have been. So you're totally clueless as to what I can "accept". The ZR1 is a beast and there's no denying it.
But its flat out bizarre that you would insinuate a one off 7:19 ends a rivally between the two on the 'ring.
The 2012 GTR ran a 7:24 in wet conditions and it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch that they could rival the ZR1 time.

I hope they do and the rivalry continues. The results will certainly be a better ZR-1 and GT-R.

There are several seconds lost in his throttle application. Ill explain it in the most understandable way I can and hopefully it makes sense. The problem is created when he is impatient and goes to the gas too soon, this causes the weight to transfer to the rear tires which in turn lifts the nose of the car. This lowers the cornering speed of the car because the front has more grip when its loaded(on brakes or off the gas) versus unloaded(on the gas), so he then has to get all the way out of the gas which slows the car down substantially because of how much cornering load and bind the car has in it and also retransfers the weight to the nose thus picking up the grip again and then Jim can get back on the gas.

He hurts his corner exit speed through doing this, In some places it can only cost half a tenth or a tenth of a second, but other times it can cost half a second or even a whole second. Ill let you draw your own conclusions on an actual number in seconds of how much time is lost.

Now youll want to think well yeah he makes that mistake a few times, but how many other times is he spot on getting on the gas and doesn't lose anytime or even picks up time. But it doesn't work like that, because there are plenty of professional GM factory drivers that can do the lap with A LOT less time given up.

So when does Nissan plan to run the ring when it is dry? Don't keep us waiting too long.

Yes it is a great rivalry but I have always been under the impression that Nissan was aiming at the 997 Turbo not the ZR1. As I have said before I am astounded that the GTR is even in the same ball bark as a car that has 110 bhp more and weighs 500lbs less.

You're right, the real goal was the 997 turbo. The rivalry (and fun) between the ZR-1 and the GT-R started when the ring times wound up being soooooooo close. Considering it's 12.9 miles, their times were about as close as it gets.

Oh, and just in case there's a philantropist lurking out there somewhere who'd like to make a donation...I'd take either one; you choose the color.
