Defect of Carbon Leather Trim

Hi, does anyone see this kind of carbon leather trim defect before? I have no idea how this happened. I show this picture to my dealership; however, they said I should check my car very carefully when I pick up the new car from the dealership.

Well, is there any way I can complain to BMW Germany?

Thanks,
Eddie

Haven't seen that before, it's an obvious defect. Are you saying that the dealer is refusing to replace the panel under warranty? If yes, try another dealer first, then complain to your regional BMW corporate office.

That is clearly a manuf defect and should not be denied for a claim. Now they may not want to relpace that. Is that trim piece a swap or does it require a dash swap?
I can see why that would not want to do it if it's a full dash swap.

Today I wrote to BMW AG, and they replied. Hopefully, there will be a good ending.

The trim just pops out so it is not a hard replacement ( see DIY section).

Replace it with some piano black

Is your car a DCT? That is normal for a DCT car.

My wife never drink hot coffee or hot tea. So she doesn't use that cup holder.

I think its another hardcore 6MT fanatic, just ignore him. But these things are covered in warranty, its easily replaceable, just take it to your dealer and they'll do it no charge if you still have warranty. if they dont do it, call BMW Taipei? idk what they're called there lol, for our region they're called BMW North America. basically call the main BMW headquarters of your area if the dealer doesn't want to fix it. good luck

Does almost look like it melted -- enough for the SA to accuse you of trying to get a free replacement Hope it works out.

As a side note, I can't even imagine how much it must cost to buy a E9X M3 in Taipei Taiwan. I've heard the M3 in other asian markets will run you well over $100,000 US due to taxes and import duty.

Anyway there is a chance it was caused by the owner, but it looks more like a defect when the matt was laid down. Steam melting from the surface, I would think would look differently. Now maybe the steam melted the glue and caused the matt to wrinkle up, but I'd be willing to bet that was a factory defect.

Maybe someone pushed their cigg into your cf trim causing a melt?

Hard to see BMW not catching that on their QA inspections and I would think BMW wouldn't even blink at fixing that.

Maybe it was the friday night shift who made that trim part.

You're right that due to the tax and duty, I paid around 160K USD for my E90 M3 in Taiwan. With 160K USD, I can buy 2 E9X M3 in US.

Well, I have sent an email with photo attachments to the customer service of BMW AG. Whether the defect is made by the customer or from the factory, I think they have the knowledge to judge. So let's wait and see!

Wow and here I am thinking twice about paying $62,000k with tax for my ordered e90 in my sig. I need to think of it that I am getting a phenomenal deal.

My wife is from Taiwan been there 3 times. Seen a few exotics rolling around taipei.

Good luck with fixing your M3.

Actually, a quick look at my sig would show I own a DCT car. I was just messing around since so many folks have been talking about DCT cars. Don't worry though, I wasn't serious...everything will be okay.

If that was discovered when picking up a new car, that is a manufacturing defect that should be replaced under warranty.

If that was found on a car after delivery, given its location like others have said the dealer can blame that on your putting a hot substance in the cup holder right there. Now, should the trim be able to withstand localized heat (from say a hot cup of coffee) I would say yes. But you're gonna have some "fun" convincing BMW of that as well if you want it fixed under warranty. As a first pass, I'd check the manual for any disclaimers around what can fit in the cup holders. My manuals are on another computer (and don't have the time to download them here) or else I would look for you. Because I have that same trim (hoping to get car next week) and if that is the case I'd like to know that up front.
