just ordered 12 convert m3 , good track car?

i just ordered a 2012 vert m3 and am wondering if i made the right choice. this car will be a daily driver but do want to go to the track on occasion. i do have a 94 turbo 911 set up for the track so this m would not be a primary track car just for fun.

if you want a vert, you want a vert. not as great on the track as the coupe/sedan, but even those aren't true track cars.

I have a buddy who runs his Vert once a month with me and he is quite happy. I can out run him but not by much.

I would say your vert should be faster than many verts out there, so it'll be fine.

I am sure you can have fan with it on the track, but its not really a track car. I have two cars: e92 m3 and 135i. Stock m3 is track ready with minor mods. Stock 135i is not track ready without major susp mods. So, i desided to modify the susp. of 135i and put her on a diet(weight is redused by 200 pounds). Now guess which one is a better track car. I think m3 coupe or sedan is too heavy even for an occasional tracking. Conv. adds about 400 pounds!!! That car not only going to be difficult to drive fast, but will be expensive. If you still have time to change your order, do so. Just my 2 cents.

Do the clubs you plan to run with allow converts? Agree re the weight. You could do better with another choice.

with upgraded brakes they make wonderful 'occasional' track cars. They are still very heavy but you can still brake deep and run it hard/fast

+1. I don't think BMW CCA events allow verts. You should confirm with your local clubs.

They allow them on a region-by-region basis. Every chapter makes the decision for themselves - national doesn't dictate. What I'm saying is, there is a chance you may be able to track your new car with your local (or nearby) chapter!

As a prior owner of an E46 M3 vert, I wouldn't do it if you are really looking to track. Plenty of performance (though you are carrying around a lot more weight and a higher center of gravity with that folding roof compare to an E90 or E92), but the real issue is safety. Even if the club allows you to, would not take the risk in a convertible. Just my 2c...

wasnt the E46 a soft-top though? i'd think the hard-top on the E93 would be just as good as a "normal" roof...
since you already have a dedicated track car OP, i wouldnt sacrifice the vert' just for track days... nothing beats top-down driving, regardless of weight, CoG, brake fade, bla bla bla...
