As to whether it will beat the RS4, who knows. We mustn't forget that the RS4 has 4 wheel drive.

I think that in perfect dry conditions with a grippy surface, 4.5 will be possible, but I think one thing that stacks up against BMW in the launch stakes is the 50:50 weight distribution. We all know that you need to maximise the weight over the rear wheels to get the best traction off the line (not necessarily fit wider tyres).

Look at the 997 GT3 ... that has 415bhp and 291lb/ft of torque, weighs 1395g and does 0-62 in 4.2secs, but with a weight distribution of around 37:63 f/r.
+1, nicely comparison...

Plus the GT3 has fat tires

Officially I think BMW will put the car at 4.5 or 4.6 0-60. The current m5 has a 0-60 of 4.5 on BMWs website. I think the car will actually be able to do a 4.4 0-60 and a 12.6 quarter mile. With proper gearing it will be as fast as a regular c6 corvette.

4.4 to 4.5 is my guess

Sad to say but it's not really compelling for me. Back in 2001 when the E46 M3 came out a 0-60 time of 4.8 sec was very competitive. This time around, the competition has improved greatly.

I agree why go through all this with a V8 even and only improve from 4.8 to 4.5. Still that's bad ass (my 2005 325i 0-60 8.1 put put seconds) but they gotta improve on it more. It makes more sence if they have the standard M3 with a 4.5 0-60 then a CSL/Competitoin package like the M3 concept that was just shown with a 20-50hp increase vs. the basic M3. Look at the wheels on the concept they are an updated version of the CSL's. I'd put the new M3 CSL at 3.9-4.1.

I got the poop from BMW and they are saying 4.2. Does it really matter !! There may be faster but never equal to the King of all cars, the M3.

BMW will put the car at 4.8-4.9 seconds.

magazines will test the car slightly under 4.5

There you go.

Because we all know 0-60 times are the end-all, be-all of auto performance.
