Hope you get it fixed without major headaches... mine was build 10.2007 so I hope this is not issue...

Regarding the Evo pulling on the M it doesn´t surprise me one bit... 440 horsepower wich is more or less the same as the bimmer but with considerably less wheight... of course it is gonna pull away even if you take 4WD into consideration.

It just sounds like a 1-off issue to me. BMW will probably replace the engine so long as they determine it was not caused by an aftermarket part or some tune messing up the A/F ratio.
What I meant was that the car is obvioulsy not stock as it runs speeds in excess of 300 kmh.

Even though the mods may seem to be light, they do spoil the fragile balance of the M engine, which is anyway kinda near limit in stock specification...this combined with some factory defects may result in a blown engine at 60k miles rather than at 200k miles.

I wish OP every luck in getting this sorted out...if he's well connected to BMW it may be easier; worst case scenario a second hand M3 engine might be found at around 10k euro.

You're kidding right? At the limit from the factory? Hardly, these cars are detuned to pass emmissions, noise regulations, etc. Doing simple engine mods like a filter and an exhaust allow the engine to perform as it is truly designed to (ie: performing w/o power killing government regulations).

I feel sorry for what happened to you, and was really concerned that a stock car can have a blown engine so early, as my M3 is really stock...my concern now started to fade away though.

Wow, that EVO must have had a modified gear box to do 180mph. I'm surprised his M3 didn't run the EVO down sooner. Granted they offer higher end EVOs in Europe than they do here so maybe it had some different gearing from the factory.
You don't need to redline your car at the track. You can shift a few K before redline and concentrate on carrying more speed through the turns instead.

OP, sorry to hear about your engine regardless if it was modded and/or raced. I hope BMW is able to help you out assuming you did not overrev the engine.
