Someone here on campus has been trying to sell a 5D classic for weeks. I should have asked him if it was his. But I still don't see why you'd buy two FFs rather than a FF and a crop. But that's just me.

Woah. Good call, I never came across that one for some reason.

I thought you said 1D, not 1Ds.

I did. I guess the 1D isn't really a FF, but it's closer to a 5D than it is to a 7D, right?

In regards to crop factor only, it's right in the middle. 5D is FF with a 1.0x crop factor. The 1D is APS-H which is 1.3x, and the 7D is APS-C which is 1.6x.

The crop factor on the 1D series is 1.4x, I think, and 1.6x on the 7D. The 1D MkIV has a superior AF scheme than the 7D, working in much lower light and working a bit faster. Also, the 7D's shutter is good for around 50,000 clicks and the 1D series is good for several times that. Still, the main reason that I sometimes covet a 1D4 is the AF with an f/8 lens.

Nope... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APS-C#Multiplier_factors

Everything else you said is point-on Dave. Don't forget the improved weather-sealing and built-in grip.

Close, but not quite...

I prefer the feel of the 7D in my hands. It's grip is wonderful, as is the 5D2's. That's my preferred physical setup, but I guess that they can't cram all the additional computing power into the smaller chassis.

I've finally gotten to where I don't think too much about the size of my cameras, but I handed my 5D2 to a wattress to photograph my wife and me with friends and it looked HUGE in front of her face. The 1D and Ds take huge to a different level.

I think what really surprised me was that he had a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 on the 5D and a Canon nifty-fifty on the 1D. I'm thinking he must have bought both bodies used to be going with lower end glass like that on those bodies. But maybe that's being a bit snobbish. Still haven't seen the pics he took.

That's a super, versatile lens. I'm looking forward to the results.

It's super heavy to be carrying around too... so we'll see. Plus, I stick out like a sore thumb in the city when at 300+mm.

Sounds to me like he's saving money every chance he gets. Many pro photographers are only scrapeing by. My wildlife photographer friend really works his ass off to pay the mortgage, etc. He's either in the field, hosting a shooting tour or processing pix. He does have a 5D2, but his big lenses are an old f/4.5 600mm, a 100-200mm L and a 17-35mm L, also old. Once in a while Canon loans him the latest rig, but only for a few weeks.

This really is a fun lens and it'll never be cheaper. Well worth the money just for the cool shots. It's so easy to use. Set it to focus at infinity, set the aperture to f8, and fire away.

and then take circular pictures because the corners don't receive light

I've test fit the 10-22 on my FF before, and it takes round photographs.

I need some quick help from you guys. I need to pull the trigger on the Kata backpack in the next 2 hours if I choose to get that one.

Kata Bug-205-PL
Think Tank StreetWalker HardDrive

I chose these two, because I need to carry my 5D2, 17-40mm, 24-105mm, 50mm, 70-200mm and/or the 100-400mm, and my 15" MacBook Pro.

The Think Tank is available at my local camera store, and it looked like it would fit all the equipment I want to take with me. But it's fugly compared to the Kata. Unfortunately, I can't find a place nearby that sells Kata, so it would be a relatively blind buy.

Any suggestions? Any other recommendations?

well... I guess I would use it to walk around town, but not fully loaded. If I'm only taking one lens with me then the Blackrapid strap will be it, and nothing else.
