I know some of you guys are pro photogs... I was wondering, how did you go about making your printed (or even online) portfolio? I'm definitely nowhere near the skill level of many of you (and I consider myself an amateur at best), but I would like to have something I could show others.

ha. I was way off then.
at 65 feet, you get 4' of DoF. that rear wheel is definitely out of focus. But anyway, you get the idea.

use the 3% rule. only pick your best. then choose 3% of that. quality over quantity.

would you recommend steering away from using multiple shots from one shoot and just spread around to show more variety? or don't worry about it that much and give like 6 from one shoot and 2 from another.

good suggestion rodi. What about the physical aspects of it... what program to use to create the portfolio, portfolio design, is online better than print, if print then where to print and bind, etc.

This Flash Gallery software is free. These are the stock images that come with it. I haven't done anything other than get the basic gallery working.

I would stay away from flash galleries. they're annoying and not universal. html5 can do a lot now.
I would not use more than one image from a shoot if they are different looks (diff makeup/hair/wardrobe).
and you want as many people to view your work as possible, so print only a book that you would take to show personally. there's blurb, lulu?, mpix, and more book making sites. more people will view your work online. get good biz cards specific to your portfolio site instead of a bunch of prints.

Thanks rodi. For your help, you can check out this video and tell me if it's real or CGI.

For wildlife, the rule is 1% or less.

Of course, I'm no pro.

Ah, so what would you charge those of us who are ignorant in the ways of web development to put together say, an html5 based portfolio site?

I know Flash stuff is annoying. I deal with the problems caused by it all the time. But for those who can't develop a site entirely on their own and can't invest big $$$ for someone else to do it, there are precious few alternatives.

The walls were inserted in post, of course. but all shots of the car are real. you can see the chopper and the cam truck in quite a few shots.

this was my first 3D composite using the same techniques:

definitely not as interesting, but so cool and fun to make.

Set the ISO up at 25,600 and show us a shot. I wonder if there'll be a little vignetting?!
