Arrow Red Bull Gives You Wings... Fastest E92 M3 at MSR Houston

Red Bull Gives You Wings.

When I bought my first E92 M3, I said to myself that I am going to keep it stock.

But as member 008 puts it, I’ve fallen way down the slippery slope.

Modification became a passion because I get to actually use my engineering training and turn it into tangible results. And it’s not just about making your car look good, it’s also about putting together an integrated solution of performance parts, and then tuning and validating them on the race track to make sure that they make a difference on your lap time.

Because of modification, in the past few years I’ve had the opportunity to work directly with various suspension manufacturers to improve and design products for the M3. I also had the privilege of getting to know some very talented race car drivers at MSR Houston who have taught me much about driving as well as how to properly set up a sports/race car.

One of them is Tony R. of Brass Monkey Racing who won the 2008 GT3 Cup in the United States. He now races a Nissan GT-R in World Challenge. A bone stock M3 can do a lap at MSRH in about 1:47-1:48 depending on the track condition. My car, based on this past Tuesday’s test run by Tony, can do it in 1:41.699 – it is unofficially the fastest E92 at MSRH.

It has been a true pleasure being a part of M3Post. Without this forum I would not have discovered my passion for cars and motorsports. And the Red Bull is a culmination of sharing and open discussion. Thanks M3Post and everyone who contributes to make it great!

2008 E92 M3
  • 1:41.699 @ MSR Houston Clockwise
  • M-DCT Transmission… So good that I traded in my 6MT
  • Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust… Perfect way to add quality and lightness
  • Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Tires… The pinnacle of streetable track tires

Test Run Data for Download

Data of Tony's run is here.

Since you already did a rear seat delete, have you considered replacing your front seats? BTW, was a big fan of your MR coupe.

So mean.

Is that your DD, by the way? That lip is in for a world of punishment, if so.

Very nice! You wouldn't happen to have more info on how you mounted your remote reservoirs, would you? How long were your hoses? Do you have quick disconnects? How did you route them into the trunk? TIA

Again, nice work on the car!

Mean and purposeful - very nice. Is that blue ring on the inside of the Akra tips from straight beating on it, or did you do that manually?

Front you need QD because the cans are too big for the steering knuckle.

Rear you don't. Just route through the vents on both sides of the trunk.

There's even more discoloration on the pipes. I will show you some next time I get it on the lift.
